Collinear contextual suppression

open access: yesVision Research, 2003
The context of a target can modulate behavioral as well as neural responses to that target. For example, target processing can be suppressed by iso-oriented surrounds whereas it can be facilitated by collinear contextual elements. Here, we present experiments in which collinear elements exert strong suppression whereas iso-oriented contextual surrounds

Visual perception of collinearity [PDF]

open access: yesPerception & Psychophysics, 2002
In a metrical space, there exists an intimate relation between collinearity and parallelity. In particular, in a Riemannian space collinearity is just a special case of parallelity. Is this true for visual space as well? We investigated the visual perception of collinearity by having subjects align two bars in the horizontal plane at eye height.

Cognitive Status in People With Epilepsy in the Republic of Guinea: A Prospective, Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective People with epilepsy (PWE) may experience cognitive deficits but fail to undergo formal evaluation. This study compares cognitive status between PWE and healthy controls in the West African Republic of Guinea. Methods A cross‐sectional, case–control study was conducted in sequential recruitment phases (July 2024–July 2025) at Ignace ...

Non-Parametric Probability Distributions Embedded Inside of a Linear Space Provided with a Quadratic Metric

open access: yesMathematics, 2020
There exist uncertain situations in which a random event is not a measurable set, but it is a point of a linear space inside of which it is possible to study different random quantities characterized by non-parametric probability distributions.

Hox collinearity - a new perspective

open access: yesThe International Journal of Developmental Biology, 2011
Hox collinearity is a spectacular phenomenon that has excited life scientists since its discovery in 1978. Two mechanisms have been proposed to explain the spatially sequential pattern of Hox gene expression in animal embryonic development: interactions among Hox genes, or the progressive opening of chromatin in the Hox clusters, from 3' to 5'.

Collinear Points in Permutations [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Combinatorics, 2005
Consider the following problem: how many collinear triples of points must a transversal of (Z/nZ)^2 have? This question is connected with venerable issues in discrete geometry. We show that the answer, for n prime, is between (n-1)/4 and (n-1)/2, and consider an analogous question for collinear quadruples.

Collinearity, convergence and cancelling infrared divergences

open access: yes, 2005
The Lee-Nauenberg theorem is a fundamental quantum mechanical result which provides the standard theoretical response to the problem of collinear and infrared divergences.

Electrical detection of magnetic skyrmions by non-collinear magnetoresistance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Magnetic skyrmions are localised non-collinear spin textures with high potential for future spintronic applications. Skyrmion phases have been discovered in a number of materials and a focus of current research is the preparation, detection, and ...

Perceptions About Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia and Views About Urate‐Lowering Therapy in People With Asymptomatic Hyperuricemia

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Asymptomatic hyperuricemia is a precursor of gout and is also associated with cardiovascular disease and chronic kidney disease. The aim of this study was to understand perceptions about asymptomatic hyperuricemia and views about urate‐lowering therapy in people with asymptomatic hyperuricemia. Methods Participants in a multinational study of
