An efficient numerical method for fractional order nonlinear two-point boundary value problem occurring in chemical reactor theory

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal
This paper is focused on computing an approximate numerical solution of the strongly nonlinear multi-order fractional version (SNMOFV) of a BVP that appears in the theory of chemical reactors.

An Efficient Numerical Scheme for Fractional Order Mathematical Model of Cytosolic Calcium Ion in Astrocytes

open access: yesFractal and Fractional
The major aim of this article is to obtain the numerical solution of a fractional mathematical model with a nonsingular kernel for thrombin receptor activation in calcium signals using two numerical schemes based on the collocation techniques. We present

Optimal Convergence of IgA Collocation Methods

open access: yesComputer Methods in Applied Mechanics and Engineering
Isogeometric collocation discretizes the strong form of a PDE on smooth spline spaces and therefore avoids element integration, but its spatial accuracy is highly sensitive to the placement of the collocation nodes. For this reason methods are tested on linear elliptic problems in order to verify convergence properties.

Thresholds: The metaphorical foundations of powerful knowledge

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper advances a theoretical account of threshold concepts as metaphorical‐relational structures that reorganise meaning across contexts. Building on conceptual metaphor theory, we propose that threshold concepts can be understood as sites of schema‐level reorganisation: deep, embodied patterns of relational logic that scaffold abstract ...

Assessing interdisciplinary understanding: Disciplinary crossroads in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme

open access: yesThe Curriculum Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Assessing interdisciplinary learning within school curricula remains a persistent challenge in educational research. Difficulties in articulating shared assessment criteria, alongside differing disciplinary and pedagogical perspectives, have contributed to ongoing uncertainty around how interdisciplinary learning should be evaluated.

Multi‐factor coupling effects in hydraulic fracturing of laminated shale: Experimental insights and physics‐informed neural network‐driven optimization

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study establishes a multi‐factor coupling framework for predicting breakdown pressure in laminated shale by integrating experimental hydraulic fracturing tests, physics‐informed neural networks (PINNs), and Sobol sensitivity analysis. It reveals how differential stress, the bedding dip angle, and the injection rate interact to influence fracture ...

Mosaic activation of the zebrafish hsp70l heat shock promoter: Implications for interpreting transgenes

open access: yesDevelopmental Dynamics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The promoters and enhancers of heat shock genes, such as the 1.5‐kb promoter of the zebrafish hsp70l gene, are valuable tools for temporal activation of transgenes. It has been widely purported that heat shock treatments result in ubiquitous expression of hsp70l‐driven transgenes.

A hybrid collocation method based on combining the third kind Chebyshev polynomials and block-pulse functions for solving higher-order initial value problems

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science, 2016
The purpose of this paper is to propose a new collocation method for solving linear and nonlinear differential equations of high order as well as solving the differential equation on a very large interval.
