COLONY SPECIFICITY IN THE ASCIDIAN,PEROPHORA SAGAMIENSIS

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1982
The presence of colony specificity, i.e., fusion-incompatibility, was revealed in Perophora sagamiensis. When two fusible stolons made a tip-to-side contact, a protrusion appeared from the lateral portion of a stolon. The tests and epidermides of both stolons fused and blood exchange was established.
