Programmable Pneumatic Actuator System for a Bioinspired Artificial Colon

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A modular soft robotic colon simulator driven by programmable pneumatic actuation is developed to mimic physiological and pathological‐like motility patterns of the large intestine. Finite element–guided design and distributed control enable anatomically realistic deformation for peristalsis, segmentation, and mass movements, supporting capsule ...

Biofilm‐Binding Phages Enhance Biofilm Eradication by Synergistic Photothermal and Photodynamic Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered phage‐based trifunctional nanofibers are developed for synergistic biofilm eradication. Biofilm‐binding phages, armed with AuNPs and TCPP, serve as both warheads and scaffolds, endowing the phototherapy agents with biofilm‐anchoring ability. Upon light irradiation, AuNPs induce photothermal therapy, while TCPP generates 1O2 for photodynamic ...

Targeting GALNT7 Disrupts the TAZ O‐GalNAcylation Feedback Loop to Suppress Gallbladder Cancer Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Aberrant GALNT7‐mediated O‐GalNAcylation stabilizes TAZ to drive gallbladder cancer progression through a feed‐forward transcriptional loop. Structure‐based screening identifies Olaparib as a potent GALNT7 antagonist that disrupts this oncogenic axis, providing an immediate therapeutic strategy for this aggressive malignancy.

Photography and the Role of the Artist [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
How do we think the photographer as a creator? This question often provokes a debate regarding the limits of the photographic medium: In particular, the potential for freedom of creative expression.

TET1 Inhibition Promotes Therapeutic Sensitivity in TP53‐Mutant GBM by Influencing Genome Fragility and Altering TAMs Biology

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In TP53mut GBM cells, reduced P53 function is associated with increased TET1 expression. Genetic or pharmacological inhibition of TET1 correlates with genome fragility, including DNA damage, cellular senescence, telomere shortening, and reactive oxygen species accumulation, which may contribute to increased efficacy of antitumor therapy.

ZBTB11 Promotes Breast Cancer Progression by Activating FBXO28‐Mediated MST1 Degradation and Suppressing Hippo Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ZBTB11 is identified as an oncogenic transcription factor that activates FBXO28 in breast cancer. FBXO28 promotes K48‐linked ubiquitination and degradation of MST1, suppressing Hippo signaling and enhancing epithelial–mesenchymal transition and metastasis. This transcription‐to‐ubiquitination cascade defines a prognostic biomarker axis and highlights a

Disrupting Helicobacter pylori Iron Homeostasis With Bismuth Nanodrug‐Mediated Nutritional Trap for Targeted Gastric Infection Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A “nutritional trap” strategy centered on disrupting bacterial iron homeostasis is proposed. The synthesized Bi‐TP@FU (TBF) can target Helicobacter pylori, interfere with the bacterial iron uptake and utilization processes to disrupt its iron homeostasis, induce bacterial death, and meanwhile preserve the balance of the intestinal flora.

Quand la nudité féminine dit la sauvagerie : la représentation des aborigènes taiwanais dans la photographie coloniale japonaise (1895-1945)

open access: yesEbisu: Études Japonaises, 2017
The representation of bare-bodied Taiwanese aboriginal women was an essential theme in Japanese colonial photography. This article examines how Japanese anthropologists at the end of the nineteenth century–the main photographers of the aborigines–created

Subversion of Atypical Mucin Traps by a Spore‐Coat Effector Blocks Cellular Immunity in Drosophila

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
While the entomopathogenic fungus Metarhizium robertsii can evade insect humoral immunity, its subversion of cellular defenses is still elusive. We identify Eac1 as a spore‐coat protein essential for infecting drosophilids by targeting atypical mucins (Sgf1 and Sgf2), which can entrap spores in a gel matrix and thereby facilitate hemocyte encapsulation.

Racializing Mestizos and Mestizas in the Philippines—Dean Worcester’s Anthropometric Types in the Early 20th Century

open access: yesHistories
In the Spanish Empire, the term mestizo/mestiza denoted, overwhelmingly, people of so-called “mixed” European and indigenous ancestry, but there existed also some regional adaptations with differing genealogies such as the mestizos de sangley in the ...
