UiO‐66 metal–organic frameworks in biomedicine: From structural tunability to bioimaging, photodiagnostics, and photodynamic cancer therapy

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
UiO‐66(Zr) metal–organic frameworks are chemically stable, biocompatible, and highly tunable nanomaterials. Their modular structure enables controlled drug delivery, multimodal bioimaging, and light‐activated photodynamic therapy, supporting integrated diagnostic and therapeutic (theranostic) applications in cancer and biomedical research.

Slow transit constipation: clinical and aetiological studies.

open access: yes, 2000
PhDConstipation is the second most commonly self-reported gastrointestinal symptom. On the basis of anorectal physiological investigations and colonic transit studies, a subgroup of patients with several intractable symptoms, but without organic ...

Concepts in functional foods: the case of inulin and oligofructose.

open access: yes, 1999
Recent advances in biosciences support the hypothesis that diet modulates various body functions. Diet may maintain well-being and reduce the risk of some diseases.

The crystal structure of the Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase BBE22 resolves a long‐standing annotation error

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The crystal structure of Borrelia burgdorferi nicotinamidase (PncA/BBE22) reveals the correct full‐length protein initiated from a non‐canonical AUU start codon. The structure validates previous biochemical findings and resolves a long‐standing annotation error, demonstrating that the truncated database sequence is structurally incompatible with the ...

The roles of secreted protein acidic and rich in cystiene (Sparc) in intestinal inflammation, healing and fibrosis

open access: yes, 2012
Secreted Protein Acidic and Rich in Cysteine (SPARC) is a matricellular protein expressed during tissue repair and regulates cell proliferation and migration.

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.

Identification and characterisation of mucin abnormalities in the ganglionic bowel in Hirschsprung's disease

open access: yes, 2010
MDHirschsprung’s disease (HD) is a congenital abnormality of unknown origin, characterised by a lack of ganglion cells in the distal colon which results in functional colonic obstruction.

Compartmentalized response of IL-6/STAT3 signaling in the colonic mucosa mediates colitis development

open access: yes, 2019
A single layer of polarized epithelial cells lining the colonic mucosa create a semipermeable barrier indispensable for gut homeostasis. The role of intestinal epithelial cell (IEC) polarization in the maintenance of the epithelial homeostasis and in the
