Mechanisms of parasite‐mediated disruption of brain vessels
Parasites can affect the blood vessels of the brain, often causing serious neurological problems. This review explains how different parasites interact with and disrupt these vessels, what this means for brain health, and why these processes matter. Evidence of rare occurrences of the Phoenix effect in the Hawaiian corals Porites compressa and Montipora capitata following mortality induced by a marine heatwave [PDF]
Coral bleaching is a common stress response to extreme temperatures experienced during marine heatwaves. Bleached corals are left vulnerable without the nutritional support of their algal symbionts, and can often suffer partial or complete mortality ...

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.
