Photosynthesis under far‐red light—evolutionary adaptations and bioengineering of light‐harvesting complexes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Phototrophs evolved light‐harvesting systems adapted for efficient photon capture in habitats enriched in far‐red radiation. A subset of eukaryotic pigment‐binding proteins can absorb far‐red photons via low‐energy chlorophyll states known as red forms.

Factors affecting vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium colonization of in-hospital patients in different wards

open access: yesTzu Chi Medical Journal
Objectives: The prevalence of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE) infection at a medical center in Eastern Taiwan rose to 80.6%, exceeding the average prevalence of 55.6% among all medical centers nationwide during the same period.

Aquatic Insect Colonization and Substrate Changes in a Relocated Stream Segment [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A section of Bear Creek in northwestern Wisconsin was relocated to accommodate new highway construction. The 850-m section of the stream was shortened to 650 m and fashioned with five broad bends and a uniform width and depth. Sandy substrate and lack of

The role of fibroblast growth factors in cell and cancer metabolism

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling regulates crucial signaling cascades that promote cell proliferation, survival, and metabolism. Therefore, FGFs and their receptors are often dysregulated in human diseases, including cancer, to sustain proliferation and rewire metabolism.

Epidemiology of Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus Colonization in Neonates within Neonatal Intensive Care Units: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

open access: yesJournal of Global Infectious Diseases
Introduction: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) colonization in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) is a significant global health concern, leading to severe infections, extended hospital stays, and substantial economic burdens on ...

A Gallus gallus Model for Determining Infectivity of Zoonotic Campylobacter

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
To better understand public health implications of waterfowl as reservoirs for zoonotic sources of Campylobacter in recreational waters, we developed a Gallus gallus (chick) model of infection to assess the pathogenicity of environmental isolates of ...

Coexistence and relative abundance in annual plant assemblages: The roles of competition and colonization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Although an interspecific trade-off between competitive and colonizing ability can permit multispecies coexistence, whether this mechanism controls the structure of natural systems remains unresolved.

The Influence of Plant Dispersion on Movement Patterns of the Colorado Potato Beetle, \u3ci\u3eLeptinotarsa Decemlineata\u3c/i\u3e (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The influence of plant dispersion on movements of the Colorado potato beetle, Leptinotarsa decemlineata (Say) (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae), was studied with mark-recapture techniques.

Multi‐omic profiling of squamous cell lung cancer identifies metabolites and related genes associated with squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Using multi‐omic characterization, we aimed to identify key regulators specific to squamous cell lung carcinoma (SqCC). SqCC‐specific differentially expressed genes were integrated with metabolics data. High expression of the creatine transporter SLC6A8, along with elevated creatine levels, appeared to be a distinct metabolic feature of SqCC.
