Endoscopy, 2000
Colonoscopy and polypectomy are the most effective tools available to prevent colorectal cancer. The technical performance of colonoscopy can be improved by methods that make polyp detection easier and more reliable, facilitate cecal intubation, and reduce recurrence and complication rates after polypectomy.

Summary Endoscopic complications are rare but inevitable, occurring in fewer than 0.35% of procedures [B]. Knowledge of potential complications and their expected frequency can lead to an improved informed consent process [C]. Complications from the procedure include perforation, hemorrhage, postpolypectomy coagulation syndrome, infection, preparation-

A new method for colon examination, virtual colonoscopy, has been created by combining spiral computed tomography and virtual reality computer technology. If virtual colonoscopy proves equal to or superior to traditional colonoscopy in sensitivity and specificity for cancer screening, it would yield significant clinical and public health benefits ...

Current Medical Imaging Reviews, 2005
Virtual colonoscopy (VC), also known as CT colonography, is a noninvasive imaging method for the examination of the colon. The technique is easy, less labour-intensive than barium enema and conventional colonoscopy and is inherently safer since no adverse event or procedure-related complications have ever been reported.
