The Constancy of Colored After-Images

open access: yesFrontiers in Human Neuroscience, 2017
We undertook psychophysical experiments to determine whether the color of the after-image produced by viewing a colored patch which is part of a complex multi-colored scene depends on the wavelength-energy composition of the light reflected from that ...

Color constancy in the honeybee [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Neuroscience, 1988
A multicolored display was illuminated by 3 bands of wavelengths corresponding to the maxima of the spectral sensitivities of the 3 types of photoreceptors found in the bee retina. The intensity of each band could be varied individually. The light fluxes emitted by the colored areas of the multicolored display were determined quantitatively.

Algorithm for foggy image enhancement based on the total variational Retinex and gradient domain

open access: yesTongxin xuebao, 2014
Considering the preservation of color constancy and the improvement of contrast ratio of foggy image en-hancement, the foggy image enhancement algorithm based on the total variational Retinex gradient domain method was proposed.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Disordered but rhythmic—the role of intrinsic protein disorder in eukaryotic circadian timing

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Unstructured domains known as intrinsically disordered regions (IDRs) are present in nearly every part of the eukaryotic core circadian oscillator. IDRs enable many diverse inter‐ and intramolecular interactions that support clock function. IDR conformations are highly tunable by post‐translational modifications and environmental conditions, which ...

Experience-Dependent Color Constancy in Guppies (Poecilia reticulata)

open access: yesNeural Plasticity, 2002
We investigated the ability to recognize the color of surfaces in fish (Poecilia reticulata), bred from birth in conditions of artificial light with constant spectral content. The capacity for color constancy significantly deteriorated when compared that

A Hybrid Strategy for Illuminant Estimation Targeting Hard Images [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Illumination estimation is a well-studied topic in computer vision. Early work reported performance on benchmark datasets using simple statistical aggregates such as mean or median error.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

All-Weather Road Image Enhancement using Multicolor Content-Aware Color Constancy

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Computer Engineering, 2018
This paper proposes a method that enhances the road images in real-time, which is an essential part of advanced driver assistance systems. The proposed method restores distorted colors in road images due to illumination by harnessing the relationship ...

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell
