Matching Color Differences*

A new visual colorimeter has been designed and built to be used primarily for matching color differences. The colorimeter provides seven visual fields, arranged in a cluster of seven regular hexagons, one in the center and six adjacent to it. Both eyes of the observer see each field uniformly filled with light.

Color Preferences Differ with Variations in Color Perception

A recent study demonstrates that color preferences of red-green dichromats differ systematically from color preferences of typical trichromatic observers. These differences can be partially explained by variations in cone-opponent mechanisms of dichromatic and trichromatic observers, but they may also be explained from an ecological perspective.

Upgrading color-difference formulas

We propose a method to improve the prediction performance of existing color-difference formulas with additional visual data. The formula is treated as the mean function of a Gaussian process, which is trained with experimentally determined color-discrimination data.
