Liver resection for colorectal metastases [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of The Royal College of Surgeons of England, 2003
Colorectal cancer is the second commonest malignancy in the UK. Metastases to the liver occur in greater than 50% of patients and remain the biggest determinant of outcome in these patients. Liver resection is a safe procedure that achieves good long-term survival, but surgery has traditionally been limited to select groups of patients.

What defines 'cure' after liver resection for colorectal metastases? Results after 10 years of follow-up [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background: During the last two decades, resection of colorectal liver metastases (CLM) in selected patients has become the standard of care, with 5-year survival rates of 25-58%.

Surgical treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases

open access: yesActa Medica Lituanica, 2011
Background. Colorectal cancer is a major health problem. Approximately 25% of the patients present with liver metastases at initial diagnosis and more than 50% develop metastases in the course of illness.

First human study in treatment of unresectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer with irinotecan-loaded beads (DEBIRI) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The objective of this pilot clinical study was to assess the safety, technical feasibility, pharmacokinetic (PK) profile and tumour response of DC Bead™ with irinotecan (DEBIRI™) delivered by intra-arterial embolisation for the treatment of metastatic ...

Autofluorescence-Raman Spectroscopy for Ex Vivo Mapping Colorectal Liver Metastases and Liver Tissue [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Introduction: Identifying colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) during liver resection could assist in achieving clear surgical margins, which is an important prognostic variable for both disease-free and overall survival.

Total-liver-volume perfusion CT using 3-D image fusion to improve detection and characterization of liver metastases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of a totalliver- volume perfusion CT (CTP) technique for the detection and characterization of livermetastases.

Can localised 19F magnetic resonance spectroscopy pharmacokinetics of 5FU in colorectal metastases predict clinical response? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Background 5-Fluorouracil remains widely used in colorectal cancer treatment more than 40 years after its development. 19F magnetic resonance spectroscopy can be used in vivo to measure 5FU’s half-life and metabolism to cytotoxic fluoronucleotides ...

Surgery for Colorectal Liver Metastases [PDF]

open access: yesDigestive Surgery, 2013
Half of all patients with colorectal cancer develop metastatic disease. The liver is the principal site for metastases, and surgical resection is the only modality that offers the potential for long-term cure. Appropriate patient selection for surgery and improvements in perioperative care have resulted in low morbidity and mortality rates, resulting ...

MiRNA-21 Expression Decreases from Primary Tumors to Liver Metastases in Colorectal Carcinoma. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
OBJECTIVE:Metastasis is the major cause of death in colorectal cancer patients. Expression of certain miRNAs in the primary tumors has been shown to be associated with progression of colorectal cancer and the initiation of metastasis.
