Silicate determination in sea water: toward a reagentless electrochemical method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
ilicate has been determined in sea water by four different electrochemical methods based on the detection of the silicomolybdic complex formed in acidic media by the reaction between silicate and molybdenum salts.

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Infant Milk Formulas: Effect of Storage Conditions on the Stability of Powdered Products towards Autoxidation

open access: yesFoods, 2015
Thirty samples of powdered infant milk formulas containing polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) have been stored at four different temperatures (20, 28, 40 and 55 °C) and periodically monitored for their malondialdehyde (MDA) content up to one year.

Synthesis of Fe-Doped Peroxidase Mimetic Nanozymes from Natural Hemoglobin for Colorimetric Biosensing and In Vitro Anticancer Effects

open access: yesBiosensors, 2023
Despite their efficiency and specificity, the instability of natural enzymes in harsh conditions has inspired researchers to replace them with nanomaterials.

Variação intraespecífica da cor da pelagem de uma espécie de pequeno roedor sul-americano [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Intra-specific color variation is often underestimated by researchers, and among mammalian species, intra-specific differences in coloration are poorly documented for most species.

PARP inhibition and pharmacological ascorbate demonstrate synergy in castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pharmacologic ascorbate (vitamin C) increases ROS, disrupts cellular metabolism, and induces DNA damage in CRPC cells. These effects sensitize tumors to PARP inhibition, producing synergistic growth suppression with olaparib in vitro and significantly delayed tumor progression in vivo. Pyruvate rescue confirms ROS‐dependent activity.

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.
