Bidirectional 10 Gb/s Coherent WDM-PON with Colorless ONUs and Extended Reach

2013 18th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference held jointly with 2013 International Conference on Photonics in Switching, 2013
We demonstrate a bidirectional 10 Gb/s WDM-PON with 100 km reach and REAM-based ONUs using heterodyne detection. The proposed network can support 640 customers at the rate of 1.25 Gb/s via TDM hybrid.

A new cross-protection dual-WDM-PON architecture with carrier-reuse colorless ONUs

Optics Communications, 2012
Abstract This paper proposes a new cross-protection colorless dual-WDM-PON architecture. The proposed protection scheme can provide 1 + 1 downstream protection and 1:1 upstream protection against both feeder fiber and distribution fiber failures by using the fiber links and AWGs of the neighboring WDM-PON.

Experimental and theoretical analyses of RSOA-based colorless-ONUs with 4PAM signal in the up-link

Chinese Optics Letters, 2012
A scheme that utilizes the 4-level pulse-amplitude-modulated (4PAM) signal as the re-modulated signal of colorless optical network units (ONUs) based on reflection semiconductor optical amplifiers (RSOAs) is proposed. The system with 10-Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) downstream and 5-Gb/s 4PAM upstream signals is theoretically analyzed and ...

Colorless ONU based on all-VCSEL sources with remote optical injection for WDM-PON

IEEE Photonic Society 24th Annual Meeting, 2011
We propose a novel low-cost and colorless WDM-PON architecture by using all VCSELs-based optical injection locking technique. A bidirectional transmission system over 26 km SMF at 5 Gbps without optical amplification is successfully achieved.

A novel self-surviving architecture for next-generation OFDM passive optical network supporting colorless ONUs

Photonic Network Communications, 2013
In this paper, we propose a novel self-surviving architecture for next-generation orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) passive optical network (PON) supporting colorless optical network units. The proposed scheme can protect distribution and feeder fiber simultaneously.

First Experimental Demonstration of Real-Time Optical OFDMA PONs with Colorless ONUs and Adaptive DBA

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2012
End-to-end real-time 10.375Gb/s optical OFDMA PONs with adaptive DBA and colorless ONUs utilizing RSOA intensity modulators are experimentally demonstrated, for the first time, in 26.4km IMDD architectures. The identified minimum ONU wavelength spacing is 0.15nm.

10-Gbps WDM-PON with RSOA-based Colorless ONUs and MZI-based optical Equalizers

CLEO: 2013, 2013
Proposed in this paper is a 10-Gbps uplink transmission over 25-km fiber in WDM-PON, in which band-limited RSOAs are applied to colorless ONUs and cascaded Mach-Zehnder Interferometers are used as three-tap optical equalizers in OLT.

A Novel Scheme for OFDM-PON Based on Polarization Multiplexing and Heterodyne with Colorless ONUs and Wireless Access

Journal of Optical Communications, 2015
AbstractA novel orthogonal frequency division multiplexing passive optical network (OFDM-PON) is proposed in this paper. By using polarization multiplexing (PoLMUX) technology, this network can not only support source free in optical domain but also in electric domain. This network can also realize wireless access by optical heterodyne technology.

OFDM/WDM PON With Laserless, Colorless 1  Gb/s ONUs Based on Si-PIC and Slow IC

Journal of Optical Communications and Networking, 2014
We introduce a next-generation long-reach access optical network (35 dB loss budget +2 dB margin) delivering up to 40G/40G per passive 1:256 optical distribution network, supporting symmetrical 1 Gb/s rates per home user or up to 40 Gb/s for business users (e.g., enterprises, antenna sites).

37.5-km Urban Field Trial of OFDMA-PON using Colorless ONUs with Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation and TCM

Optical Fiber Communication Conference, 2014
An OFDMA-PON field trial using coherent detection in upstream and direct detection in downstream on 37.5 km feeder fiber is demonstrated. A power budget supporting 32 cost-effective colorless ONUs with dynamic bandwidth allocation is reported.
