Colorless WDM-PON Performance Improvement Exploiting a Service-ONU for Multiwavelength Distribution
Optical Fiber Communication Conference and National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2009A colorless performance-improved WDM-PON compatible with Gigabit-PON is presented. The proposed solution is based on a Service-ONU for multiwavelength distribution. Mitigation of Rayleigh backscattering effect and path-loss degradation is demonstrated in 2.5Gb/s and 10Gb/s schemes.

High order remodulation scheme based on R-QDSOA at colorless ONU
2017 16th International Conference on Optical Communications and Networks (ICOCN), 2017To achieve the better combination of cost and communication capacity, this paper proposes a colourless ONU remodulation scheme based on R-QDSOA in WDM-PON. The R-QDSOA can provide a modulation bandwidth over 20GHz and achieve directly modulation of high-order signal.

Experimental Investigation of Colorless ONU employing SSFBG in WDM/OCDMA-PON
Asia Communications and Photonics Conference and Exhibition, 2009We present a novel scheme to construct non-wavelength-selective optical network unit (ONU) in hybrid wavelength division multiplexing and optical code division multiple access based passive optical networks (WDM/OCDMA-PON) by making use of the broad spetrum band of superstructure fiber Bragg gratings (SSFBGs).

Colorless ONU implementation for WDM-PON using direct-detection optical OFDM
Optoelectronics Letters, 2013A novel architecture for the colorless optical network unit (ONU) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated with direct-detection optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (DDO-OFDM). In this architecture, polarization-division multiplexing is used to reduce the cost at ONU.

Multisignal OFDM-Based Hybrid Optical-Wireless WDM LR-PON With Colorless ONU
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2015We experimentally demonstrate bidirectional transmission in a multisignal orthogonal frequency division multiplexing hybrid optical-wireless long reach passive optical network with a colorless optical network unit (ONU), and the optical seed generated at remote node (RN) 75 km away from optical line termination.

Colorless optical network unit (ONU) is a very important concept for the wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) based passive optical networks (PON). We present a novel scheme to construct non-wavelength-selective ONUs in WDM/OCDMA-PON by making use of the broad spectrum band of superstructure fiber Bragg gratings (SSFBGs).

Colorless ONU With All-Optical Clock Recovery for Full-Duplex Dense WDM PONs
IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2011We propose a colorless optical network unit (ONU) comprised of a Fabry-Perot filter (FPF) and a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) for all-optical clock recovery of the downstream signal, followed by a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM) as the upstream modulator.

Abstract Flexible migration that reuse the deployed infrastructure and colorless ONUs which avoid inventory problem are two major challenges of next-generation passive optical network (NGPON). In this paper, flexible migration is achieved by the coexistence of legacy PON and NGPON and colorless ONUs is achieved by upstream remodulation.

CLEO: 2015, 2015
By suppressing one of the conjugated sidebands, the phase-modulated downstream OFDM signal can be directly detected and remodulated for upstream transmission simultaneously. Thus, colorless ONU can be realized with symmetric bitrate and low-cost direct-detection receiver.
