Theory of colossal magnetoresistance in manganites

Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 1999
The recent attempt to account for the existence of several magnetic phases in insulating perovskite manganites in terms of the interplay between the orbital and spin orders produced by the localized eg and t2g electrons is extended to the metallic state which is obtained on doping.

Ultrafast Conductivity Dynamics in Colossal Magnetoresistance Manganites

Physical Review Letters, 2001
Ultrafast picosecond measurements of optically induced changes in the absolute conductivity (0.4-1.0 THz) of La0.7M0.3MnO3 thin films ( M = Ca, Sr) from 10 K to approximately 0.9 Tc reveal a two-component relaxation. A fast, approximately 2 ps, conductivity decrease arises from an optically induced modification of the effective phonon temperature.

Colossal magnetoresistance in La-Ca-Mn-O

Metals and Materials, 1997
ABSTRACTVery large increase in electrical conductivity by several orders of magnitude is obtained when an external magnetic field is applied to the colossal magnetoresistance (CMR) materials such as La-Ca-Mn-O. The magnetoresistance is strongly temperature-dependent, and exhibits a sharp peak below room temperature, which can be shifted by adjusting ...

Ferromagnetism and Colossal Magnetoresistance from Phase Competition

Physical Review Letters, 2000
We report a multicomponent theory for the coexistence of charge ordering (CO), and antiferromagnetic (AFM) and ferromagnetic (FM) spin ordering. This kind of state is invoked for manganites by Moreo et al., Science 283, 2034 (1999) and observed in recent experiments. We show that doping an AFM or CO state always generates a FM component.
