A configural dominant account of contextual cueing : configural cues are stronger than colour cues [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Previous work has shown that reaction times to find a target in displays that have been repeated are faster than those for displays that have never been seen before.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Colour, health and wellbeing: the hidden qualities and properties of natural dyes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper addresses the questions: Is it feasible that the chemicals present in the natural dyes of both plants and insects which in the past, man has exploited for their colour, could exhibit other properties?

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Spray-dried tomato powder: reconstitution properties and colour

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology, 2008
Powdered tomato was produced by spray drying the tomato pulp. A full 2³ factorial design with the central point was used, varying the feed flow rate (127-276 g/min), air inlet temperature (200-220ºC) and the atomisation speed (25,000-35,000 rpm).

Classification analysis on physicochemical properties of coloured and non-coloured waxy rice [PDF]

open access: yesActa Alimentaria, 2015
Six coloured and six non-coloured waxy rice varieties were analyzed by determining amylose, fat, and protein content, pasting, and thermal properties. Significant differences in protein content as well as pasting properties between coloured and non-coloured waxy rice were identified. It was demonstrated that protein may have a main influence on pasting

Normativity, moral realism, and unmasking explanations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Moral Projectivism must be able to specify under what conditions a certain inner response counts as a moral response. I argue, however, that moral projectivists cannot coherently do so because they must assume that there are moral properties in the world

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Region matching based on colour invariants in rgb orthogonal space

open access: yesIET Computer Vision, 2016
Illumination influences the performance of region feature matching based on a grey image. A novel region‐matching algorithm based on the colour invariants and colour‐invariant moments in rgb orthogonal colour space is proposed.
