The Statistics of Density Peaks and the Column Density Distribution of the Lyman-Alpha Forest [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
We develop a method to calculate the column density distribution of the Lyman-alpha forest for column densities in the range $10^{12.5} - 10^{14.5} cm^{-2}$.

Post-buckling Analysis of Cold-form Steel Column

open access: yesJournal of Engineering, 2020
For the time being, the cold-formed sections are widely used due to their simple manufacturing and construction processes. To be feasible, the strength of cold-formed columns should be determined based on their post-buckling behavior.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Free Vibration and Buckling Analyses of Functionally Graded Porous Columns by FEM

open access: yesApplications of Modelling and Simulation, 2022
This article presents the free vibration and buckling behaviors of functionally graded porous (FGP) columns by using FEM (finite element method). The Matlab code developed based on the finite element formulation is validated by solving the above problems

Economic Analysis and Environmental Impact Assessment of Heat Pump-Assisted Distillation in a Gas Fractionation Unit

open access: yesEnergies, 2019
The depletion of fossil fuels and environmental pollution (e.g., greenhouse gas emissions) through the combustion of fossil fuels have stimulated studies on new technologies able to curtail the energy consumption of existing fractionation units.

Peptide‐based ligand antagonists block a Vibrio cholerae adhesin

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The structure of a peptide‐binding domain of the Vibrio cholerae adhesin FrhA was solved by X‐ray crystallography, revealing how the inhibitory peptide AGYTD binds tightly at its Ca2+‐coordinated pocket. Structure‐guided design incorporating D‐amino acids enhanced binding affinity, providing a foundation for developing anti‐adhesion therapeutics ...

Heterogeneous Extractive Batch Distillation of Chloroform - Methanol – Water : Feasibility and Experiments [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
A novel heterogeneous extractive distillation process is considered for separating the azeotropic mixture chloroform – methanol in a batch rectifying column, including for the first time an experimental validation of the process.

Real‐time assay of ribonucleotide reductase activity with a fluorescent RNA aptamer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ribonucleotide reductases (RNR) synthesize DNA building blocks de novo, making them crucial in DNA replication and drug targeting. FLARE introduces the first single‐tube real‐time coupled RNR assay, which enables isothermal tracking of RNR activity at nanomolar enzyme levels and allows the reconstruction of allosteric regulatory patterns and rapid ...

Structural behaviour of circular concrete filled steel tube column fill with selfcompacting concrete incorporating coal bottom ash as fine aggregate replacement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Lack of compaction may affect the interaction between the steel tube and the concrete, hence influence the behaviour of CFST column. Employing selfcompacting concrete (SCC) in CFST column as an infill concrete remove the necessity for compaction ...

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in
