Simulation of the Wheel-Surface Interaction Dynamics for All-Terrain Vehicles

open access: yesApplied Mechanics, 2022
In this paper, a new methodology for the numerical simulation of the wheel–surface interaction has been presented. The finite-element method was combined with the discrete-element method, rigid body dynamics, and the advanced wheel–surface friction model.

Surrogate Modeling of High-Fidelity Fracture Simulations for Real-Time Residual Strength Predictions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A surrogate model methodology is described for predicting, during flight, the residual strength of aircraft structures that sustain discrete-source damage.

Space decomposition based parallelization solutions for the combined finite–discrete element method in 2D

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, 2014
The combined finite–discrete element method (FDEM) belongs to a family of methods of computational mechanics of discontinua. The method is suitable for problems of discontinua, where particles are deformable and can fracture or fragment. The applications

Second-Order Time Stepping Scheme Combined with a Mixed Element Method for a 2D Nonlinear Fourth-Order Fractional Integro-Differential Equations

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2022
In this article, we study a class of two-dimensional nonlinear fourth-order partial differential equation models with the Riemann–Liouville fractional integral term by using a mixed element method in space and the second-order backward difference formula

Analysis of a Darcy-Cahn-Hilliard Diffuse Interface Model for the Hele-Shaw Flow and its Fully Discrete Finite Element Approximation

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper we present PDE and finite element analyses for a system of partial differential equations (PDEs) consisting of the Darcy equation and the Cahn-Hilliard equation, which arises as a diffuse interface model for the two phase Hele-Shaw flow. We

High order direct Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian schemes on moving Voronoi meshes with topology changes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
We present a new family of very high order accurate direct Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) Finite Volume (FV) and Discontinuous Galerkin (DG) schemes for the solution of nonlinear hyperbolic PDE systems on moving 2D Voronoi meshes that are ...

A micro finite element model for soil behaviour: Numerical validation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A micro finite-element (μFE) model capable of handling arbitrary shapes and deformable grains has been developed by the authors. The basis of this μFE model is to use a virtualised soil fabric obtained from micro computed tomography (μCT) of real sand to
