Sunlight‐Driven, Catalyst‐Free Synthesis of Cyclobutanes by [2 + 2] Cycloaddition of Fluorinated Heterochalconoids in Solution

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Organic Chemistry, Volume 28, Issue 27, July 25, 2025.
Sunlight promotes [2 + 2] cycloaddition of fluorinated derivatives of heterochalconoids in solution to produce cyclobutanes without the need for an external photocatalyst. The reaction output, including regio‐ and stereoselectivity, depends on the heteroaromatic system and the number and position of fluorine atoms.

Shade Tree Selection in Cocoa Agroforestry: Ghanaian Farmers' Preferences, Ecological Insight and Drivers of Local Ecological Knowledge

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 15, Issue 7, July 2025.
The study found a moderate (23) pool of preferred shade tree species among cocoa farmers, with specific species favored at different cocoa production stages, which highlights the need for diversified agroforestry systems to enhance resilience and sustainability.

Hydroclimate variability in the eastern Kimberley, Australia, since the last deglaciation

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 40, Issue 5, Page 893-912, July 2025.
ABSTRACT The climate of the Kimberley region in tropical northwest Australia is dominated by the Indo‐Australian summer monsoon (IASM). Understanding of the palaeoclimate since the Last Glacial Maximum in this region, which is well placed to record IASM variations, is currently based on few records.

Patterns and Drivers of Phylogenetic Beta Diversity in the Forests and Savannas of Africa

open access: yesJournal of Biogeography, Volume 52, Issue 7, July 2025.
ABSTRACT Aim Studying beta diversity, or the variation in species composition among communities, can give insights into plant community assembly over space and time. If different biomes show contrasting large‐scale beta‐diversity patterns, this can indicate divergent evolutionary histories or ecological processes that then drive species turnover among ...
