Combustibility of biomass from perennial crops cultivated on a rewetted Mediterranean peatland

open access: yes, 2016
A paludicultural experiment was conducted in the Massaciuccoli Lake Basin (Tuscany, IT) to test this restoration strategy to reduce water eutrophication and subsidence phenomena of peat soils.

Rhéologie et combustion de mélanges charbon-eau Rheology and Combustion of Coal-Water Mixtures

open access: yesOil & Gas Science and Technology, 2006
Différents mélanges charbon-eau ont été préparés avec le charbon Freyming. Ces mélanges diffèrent par leurs teneurs en charbon, la distribution de taille de particules de charbon , la nature des agents dispersants.

Flammability of Two Mediterranean Mixed Forests: Study of the Non-additive Effect of Fuel Mixtures in Laboratory

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2018
In the Mediterranean region, wildfires are a major disturbance, determined by ecosystem and forest species characteristics. Both the flammability and resistance to fire of a mixed forest may vary from those of the individual species.

Bio‐Inspired Synthesis of Macroporous Single Crystal Particles as Scattering Agents

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A general strategy is presented that delivers unique, single‐crystal microparticles that combine submicron macroporosity and uniform particle shapes. A bioinspired approach is used to occlude three distinct types of additives – polystyrene microspheres, polymer vesicles and amino acids – within calcite single crystals, and subsequent thermal annealing ...

Gellan Gum Fluid Gel System for Controlled‐Delivery of Cytokine‐Licensed MSC‐EVs to Enhance Corneal Repair in Limbal Stem Cell Deficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Gellan gum fluid gel (FG) enables controlled ocular delivery of mesenchymal stromal cell (MSC)‐derived extracellular vesicles (EV). Its shear‐thinning, solid‐liquid‐solid rheology ensures prolonged ocular retention. Sustained MSC‐EV release (∼18% in 6 hrs) supports effective EV ocular delivery.

Combustion behaviour of dusts in quasi- stationary state

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2019
Within the scope of safety related assessment of combustible dusts, burning tests are of huge importance in the field of fire and explosion protection as they evaluate the burning ability of sedimented dust resulting in the so-called combustibility index.

Combustibility of wood-cement compounds

open access: yes, 2022
Wood-cement compounds (WCCs) contain 30% to 40% combustible matter. Consequently, it is essential to determine if this kind of material is able to burn and produce energy as a way of recycling.
