A MEMS-based solid propellant microthruster array for space and military applications [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Since combustion is an easy way to achieve large quantities of energy from a small volume, we developed a MEMS based solid propellant microthruster array for small spacecraft and micro-air-vehicle applications.

Acoustoelastic Interaction in Combustion Chambers: Modeling and Experiments

open access: yesJournal of Engineering for Gas Turbines and Power, 2008
To decrease NOx emissions from combustion systems, lean premixed combustion is used. A disadvantage is the higher sensitivity to combustion instabilities, leading to increased sound pressure levels in the combustor and resulting in an increased excitation of the surrounding structure: the liner.

Interaction of MgO Recyclate‐Based Cermet Anode With KF‐AlF3‐Al2O3 at 800°C During Laboratory Scale Aluminum Molten Salt Electrolysis

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A carbon‐free, as‐sintered MgO–steel cermet anode, fabricated via cold isostatic pressing using MgO–C refractory recyclate, was evaluated under laboratory‐scale K‐cryolite electrolysis at 800°C. Operation at this reduced temperature, combined with the electrolyte's limited electrical conductivity, led to an increase in cell voltage.

Performance optimization design of trapped vortex combustion chamber with a sand dune blunt body

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering
In an effort to enhance the performance of the trapped vortex combustion chamber, this paper improved the trapped vortex combustion chamber and proposed a sand dune trapped vortex combustion chamber. Firstly, the effects of different inlet velocities and

Impact of Pre‐Oxidation Treatments on a Recycled MgO/Steel‐Composite as Carbon Free Anode in Aluminum‐Electrolysis Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Cermets (60 vol.% AISI 316L stainless steel, 40 vol.% recycled MgO), intended for use in aluminum electrolysis, were pre‐oxidized in three furnaces with different heating technologies and subjected to a cryolite corrosion test. The different atmospheres influenced the formation of oxide layers, which in turn affected corrosion resistance and ...

Supercritical fuel injection system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
a fuel injection system for gas turbines is described including a pair of high pressure pumps. The pumps provide fuel and a carrier fluid such as air at pressures above the critical pressure of the fuel.

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.

Factors Affecting Characteristic Length of the Combustion Chamber of Liquid Propellant Rocket Engines

open access: yesMehran University Research Journal of Engineering and Technology, 2019
Optimum characteristic length of the combustion chamber of liquid rocket engine is very important to get higher energy from the liquid propellants. Characteristic length is defined by the time required for complete burning of fuel.

Pulsed instabilities in combustion chambers [PDF]

open access: yes31st Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit, 1995
A pulsed or "triggered" instability occurs when pressure oscillations develop in a linearly stable combustion system after being subjected to a sufficiently large disturbance. Such true nonlinear instabilities usually occur as subcritical bifurcations in dynamical systems theory.

Ultrastable Photoactive Halide Perovskite Nanocrystal‐Sensitized SnO2 Nanorods for Room‐Temperature NO2 Detection

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Metal oxide (MOx)‐based NO2 gas sensors typically require high temperatures or ultraviolet light, limiting their practical use. To enable visible‐light activation at room temperature, efficient and stable photosensitizers should be integrated with nanostructured MOx hosts.
