Standardized Reporting Needed to Improve Accuracy of Flaring Data

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Gas flaring represents a large waste of a natural resource for energy production and is a significant source of greenhouses gases to the atmosphere. The World Bank estimates annual flared gas volumes of 150 billion cubic meters, based upon a conversion ...

From fire whirls to blue whirls and combustion with reduced pollution. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Fire whirls are powerful, spinning disasters for people and surroundings when they occur in large urban and wildland fires. Whereas fire whirls have been studied for fire-safety applications, previous research has yet to harness their potential burning ...

The Implication of Injection Locations in an Axisymmetric Cavity-Based Scramjet Combustor

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
This paper presents the effect of cavity-based injection in an axisymmetric supersonic combustor using numerical investigation. An axisymmetric cavity-based angled and transverse injections in a circular scramjet combustor are studied.

Improvement of the Combustion Completeness of Hydrogen Jet Flames within a Mesoscale Tube under Zero Gravity

open access: yesEnergies, 2021
Microjet hydrogen flames can be directly used as micro heat sources or can be applied in micro propulsion systems. In our previous study, under zero gravity and without an active air supply, the combustion completeness of hydrogen jet flames within a ...

Estimation of Emissions from Sugarcane Field Burning in Thailand Using Bottom-Up Country-Specific Activity Data

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2014
Open burning in sugarcane fields is recognized as a major source of air pollution. However, the assessment of its emission intensity in many regions of the world still lacks information, especially regarding country-specific activity data including ...

Granulated biofuels combustion efficiency

open access: yesIOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science, 2019
Abstract The article presents the results of experimental studies of the thermal and ecological performance of the Firematic 60 boiler manufactured by Herz Energietechnik GmbH. Wood pellets with diameter of 6 and 8 mm and biochar from hydrolytic lignin were used for combustion. The components of the boiler’s heat balance and the emission

Gas Turbine Combustion Efficiency [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 2: Coal, Biomass and Alternative Fuels; Combustion and Fuels, 1985
A method of correlating combustor efficiency as a function of geometry and operating conditions is presented. A simple equation correlates all the data for a given engine type with a single parameter. The correlating parameter is a function of fuel flow, pressure, temperature and volume in a form similar to others in the literature.

Swirling combustor energy converter: H2/air simulations of separated chambers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This work reports results related to the “EU-FP7-HRC-Power” project aiming at developing micro-meso hybrid sources of power. One of the goals of the project is to achieve surface temperatures up to more than 1000 K, with a ΔT ≤ 100 K, in order to be ...

Stagnation Hugoniot Analysis for Steady Combustion Waves in Propulsion Systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
The combustion mode in a steady-flow propulsion system has a strong influence on the overall efficiency of the system. To evaluate the relative merits of different modes, we propose that it is most appropriate to keep the upstream stagnation state fixed ...
