Experimental Study of Flame Dynamics in a Triple-Injector Swirling Nonpremixed Combustor Under Different Thermoacoustic Self-Excited Instability Modes [PDF]

open access: yesSensors
Combustion instability is one of the prominent and unavoidable problems in the design of high-performance propulsion systems. This study investigates the heat release rate (HRR) responses in a triple-nozzle swirling nonpremixed combustor under various ...

The impact of carbon quantum dots derived from spent coffee grounds on the droplet combustion of diesel/n-butanol blend [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon
As global concerns surrounding climate change mount and fossil fuel reserves diminish, the application of additives in internal combustion engines is increasingly prevalent.

Numerical study of the lean premixed PRECCINSTA burner with hydrogen enrichment [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
Hydrogen combustion is one of the most promising solution to achieve a global decarbonization in power production and transports. Pure hydrogen combustion is far from becoming a standard but, during the energy transition, hydrogen co-firing can be a ...

A Phenomenological Model for the Unsteady Combustion of Solid Propellants from a Zel’dovich-Novzhilov Approach

open access: yesAerospace, 2023
Solid rocket motors are prone to combustion instabilities, which may lead to various problems for the rockets, from unexpected oscillations, precision decreasing, to explosion.

loop-shaping control of azimuthal combustion instabilities in annular combustors

open access: yesJournal of Low Frequency Noise, Vibration and Active Control, 2021
Lean combustion technique and annular geometries are preferred in aero-engines and gas turbines, which however may lead to azimuthal combustion instabilities. Active control can be used to stabilize combustion instabilities.

A Mathematical and Numerical Model for the Analysis of Hybrid Rocket Motors [PDF]

open access: yesINCAS Bulletin, 2011
The hybrid rocket motors (HRM) use a two-phase propellant system. This offers some remarkable advantages but also arises some difficulties like the neutralization of their instabilities.

Novel In-Service Combustion Instability Detection Using the Chirp Fourier Higher Order Spectra

open access: yesInternational Journal of Prognostics and Health Management, 2017
Combustion instabilities, known as “rumble” and “screech” are the self-excited aerodynamic instabilities in the gas turbine combustor. They cause the premature failures of the gas turbine components, and, consequently, the failure of the gas turbine as a

Application of a three-step approach for prediction of combustion instabilities in industrial gas turbine burners

open access: yesJournal of the Global Power and Propulsion Society, 2018
Recently, because of environmental regulations, gas turbine manufacturers are restricted to produce machines that work in the lean combustion regime. Gas turbines operating in this regime are prone to combustion-driven acoustic oscillations referred as ...

Fingering Instability in Combustion [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Letters, 1998
A thin solid (e.g., paper), burning against an oxidizing wind, develops a fingering instability with two decoupled length scales. The spacing between fingers is determined by the P clet number (ratio between advection and diffusion). The finger width is determined by the degree two dimensionality. Dense fingers develop by recurrent tip splitting.

Analysis of Gaseous and Gaseous-Dusty, Premixed Flame Propagation in Obstructed Passages with Tightly Placed Obstacles

open access: yesFluids, 2020
A recent predictive scenario of premixed flame propagation in unobstructed passages is extended to account for obstructions that can be encountered in facilities dealing with explosive materials such as in coalmines.
