Combustor Design Guidelines

2021
A conventional ramjet combustion chamber is simply a hollow cylinder. Combustion chambers may be divided into single stage and two stages according to the organization of their combustion processes. A stabilized combustion chamber includes the following elements: (1) an installation for the introduction and atomization of the fuel; (2) ignition units; (

Miniature Fuel Film Combustor: Swirl Vane Design and Combustor Characterization

Combustion Science and Technology, 2013
Previous research on fuel film combustors has shown their potential as portable power devices with high mass-specific and volume-specific power and energy. In this work, the addition of a swirl vane at the bottom of the film combustor, while retaining the original design of tangential fuel inlets, is presented.

VERTICAL COMBUSTOR FOR PARTICULATE REFUSE

Numerical Heat Transfer, 1981
A vertical combustor for refuse particle combustion is analyzed for waste energy recovery. A one-dimensional model is constructed that consists of three components of fuel particles, inert solid particles, and the gaseous mixture. The gaseous component is further divided into six chemical species that evolve in combustion at temperatures below about ...

Mathematical Models of Catalytic Combustors

Catalysis Reviews, 1999
Abstract The various concepts of catalytic combustion for the production of energy are presented first. Then, the different configurations of catalytic combustion systems for gas turbine applications are described. The following aspects of the mathematical modeling of the catalyst section are addressed: (1) relevant physical and chemical phenomena; (2)

Plasma assisted combustor dynamics control

Proceedings of the Combustion Institute, 2015
Abstract The primary purpose of the current research is to demonstrate and interpret the effectiveness of implementing a plasma discharge to improve combustor dynamics and flame stability. Specifically, a nano-second pulsed plasma discharge (NSPD) was applied to a premixed methane/air dump combustor for mitigation of dynamic combustion instabilities ...

Effects of Injector-Combustor Geometry on the Performance of Supersonic Combustor

Combustion Science and Technology, 1998
Abstract Experimental studies were made on supersonic combustion in a two dimensional combustor using Hydrogen as fuel. A Hydrogen vitiation air heater with oxygen replenishment was used for simulating high temperature air entering the supersonic combustor.

Short Helical Combustor: Concept Study of an Innovative Gas Turbine Combustor

Volume 4A: Combustion, Fuels and Emissions, 2015
An innovative design of a gas turbine annular combustor is investigated analytically and numerically. Its principal feature is the helical arrangement of the burners around the turbine shaft. Hence, a shorter combustor with lower aerodynamical losses and cooling air demand might be realized. A generic model of the combustor is developed and analyzed by

Automatic Combustor Controller Development and Liquid-Fuel Combustor Design Program

1983
Abstract : This technical report, prepared for the Aerospace Power Division, Aero Propulsion Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, states design and test results of a combustor controller integrated with an existing 1kW free-piston Stirling engine. This report document also states the design of a liquid-fuel external heat system capable of operating with a

Radiative heating in scramjet combustors

31st Thermophysics Conference, 1996
Currently, there is considerable interest in scramjet engines for hypersonic aircraft and missiles. This paper presents preliminary calculations of the radiative heating of the walls of scramjet combustion chambers. The analysis assumes isothermal, constant property owŽ elds that are representative of actual combustor owŽ elds.
