Early detection of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients with liver cirrhosis and/or hepatitis virus B/C infection improves survival. Through marker discovery, 8 methylated DNA markers are identified and a logistic regression model (COMET‐LR) is built in the training set, which achieved 90.0% sensitivity at 97.4% specificity in the validation set.

Analysis of Hysteresis in the Regime Transition of Cocurrent Liquid–Gas Flow
Fluid dynamics of a cocurrent liquid–gas flow are studied by numerical simulations, and hysteresis in regime transition from bubbly to annular flow and vice versa is explained based on the variation of vortical energy in each phase and history of different enstrophy generation/destruction mechanisms.

An investigation of changes to commercial aircraft flight paths during volcanic eruptions
Volcanic eruptions can inject ash into the atmosphere, which is then advected by meteorological winds, potentially affecting large volumes of airspace. Volcanic Ash Advisory Centres (VAACs) issue volcanic ash advisories (VAAs) when airspace is likely to ...

The experimental data of a 1:3 water model of a continuous caster presented herein show the strong influence of phase distribution in the submerged entry nozzle (SEN) on the pressure distribution in the SEN and on the stopper position. These findings are based on the influence of the wetting conditions of the SEN walls and on a hysteresis effect ...

Fault slip rates estimated from geodetic data are being integrated into seismic hazard models. The standard approach requires modeling velocities and relative (micro‐)plate motions, which is challenging for fault‐based models.

Two different evolutionary types of comets proved by polarimetric and infrared properties of their dust [PDF]
Comets can be divided into two groups: type I, characterized by high gas/dust ratio, low polarization, and a weak or absent 10 micron silicate feature, and type II, for which a low gas/dust ratio, high polarization, and strong silicate feature are typical.

Addressing employment barriers for humanitarian migrants: Perspectives from settlement services
Abstract This research seeks to understand the challenges faced by settlement service providers (SSPs) in assisting humanitarian migrants to secure appropriate employment. In‐depth interviews with 26 SSPs identified that current impediments to facilitating humanitarian migrants' employment related to employment support programmes; settlement service ...

A Near‐Process 2D Heat‐Transfer Model for Continuous Slab Casting of Steel
The simulation results for the selected case of studies, obtained with m2CAST, show reasonable accordance with industrially measured surface temperatures by thermocouples and pyrometers installed at a continuous slab caster. m2CAST is a promising tool for optimizing the secondary cooling parameters and adjusting soft reduction settings to enhance the ...
