Thermal Shadows and Compositional Structure in Comet Nuclei

open access: yes, 2011
We use a fully 3-dimensional thermal evolution model to examine the effects of a non-uniform surface albedo on the subsurface thermal structure of comets.

Machine Learning Approaches for GC–MS Data Interpretation in Flavour and Fragrance Analysis

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, Volume 41, Issue 3, Page 437-448, May 2026.
The review explores machine learning integration in GC‐MS data analysis for the fragrance and flavour industry, highlighting recent advances and techniques in a context constrained by data scarcity and intellectual property concerns. ABSTRACT This review explores the integration of machine learning (ML) in the analysis of mass spectrometry data ...

Archives of impact: The politics of craters on Earth

open access: yesGeographical Research, Volume 64, Issue 2, May 2026.
This paper examines Earth’s 195 confirmed impact craters as archives, exploring their cataloguing and presentation as heritage sites. It argues Western scientific framings using military language and emphasising catastrophe overlook settler colonialism’s violent histories and marginalise indigenous earth‐sky cosmologies.

Low CO/CO2 ratios of comet 67P measured at the Abydos landing site by the Ptolemy mass spectrometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Comets are generally considered to contain the best-preserved material from the beginning of our planetary system, although the mechanism of their formation and subsequent evolution are still poorly understood.

MOFs as New Catalytic Platform for Covalent Adaptable Networks: Catalysis Meets Reinforcement

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 65, Issue 18, 27 April 2026.
A novel heterogeneous catalytic platform for covalent adaptable networks (CANs) is introduced by immobilizing bases of low molecular weight on metal‐organic frameworks (MOFs). The obtained catalyst UiO‐TBD benefits from the high loading capacity of the MOF and demonstrates a higher thermal stability relative to free TBD.

The Volatile Composition of Comet 17P/Holmes after Its Extraordinary Outburst

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2008
The volatile abundances in comet 17P/Holmes were measured on three dates (UT 2007 October 27.6 and 31.3 and November 2.3) using high-dispersion (λ/Δ λ ~ 2.5 × 104) infrared spectroscopy with NIRSPEC at the W. M. Keck Observatory and CSHELL at the NASA Infrared Telescope Facility.

The chemical connection between 67P/C-G and IRAS 16293-2422

open access: yes, 2018
The chemical evolution of a star- and planet-forming system begins in the prestellar phase and proceeds across the subsequent evolutionary phases. The chemical trail from cores to protoplanetary disks to planetary embryos can be studied by comparing ...

Orbital Deflection of Comets by Directed Energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Cometary impacts pose a long-term hazard to life on Earth. Impact mitigation techniques have been studied extensively, but they tend to focus on asteroid diversion.

A 3D View of Igneous Plumbing Systems in Sedimentary Basins: Examples From the Santos and Campos Basins (Brazilian Margin)

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Igneous Plumbing Systems in sedimentary basins comprise a complex of interconnected intrusive bodies that lead to volcano formation, though their 3D distribution and dynamics are not fully understood. We characterized the post‐breakup igneous plumbing systems at the Santos and Campos Basins using wells and 3D high‐resolution seismic and ...

Cryogenic Differential Calorimetry: Exothermicity of Amorphous-to-crystalline Phase Transitions (ACPT) in Astrophysical and Cometary Ice Analogs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Amorphous ice is understood to be the predominant phase of water in cometary nuclei. A significant number of other volatiles can be trapped in amorphous H _2 O ice and released during the amorphous-to-crystalline phase transition (ACPT).
