Tavolate e territorio. Feste, cibo e comunità in Italia dal secondo dopoguerra a oggi

open access: yesStoricamente, 2022
Traditional feasts (the Palio in Siena), celebrations of the local patron saint (Festa del Redentore); events organized by long-standing charitable organizations (the Purgatory lunch in Gradoli), festivals staged by political groups (the First of May ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Pragmemic Triggers in the Acehnese Commensality

open access: yes, 2018
Food is one of the ways through which humans make meaningful connections and hospitality with each other. Commensality is one of the social events of people to eat together that involves linguistic acts from the public to the intimate.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Commensality constitutes communalism: Producing emergent bonds in experimental small groups by sharing food and drink [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Relational models theory provides an alternative framework to study group and intergroup processes. One of four models people use to constitute groups is communal sharing (CS).

Microbiome−host proteostasis crosstalk—An emerging perspective on mechanisms and interventions toward healthy longevity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Three phosphatase families form a community: The phosphohydrolases that act upon inositol pyrophosphates

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Inositol pyrophosphates are energy‐rich signaling molecules that perform critical functions in cells. Three different families of phosphatases hydrolyze the β phosphate of the inositol pyrophosphate molecules: two have narrow specificities and one is promiscuous.

La endoalteridad y su tratamiento. Acerca de los consanguíneos depredadores en el México oriental

open access: yesAlteridades, 2020
Among the Otomi of the eastern Sierra Madre mountain range, the question of alterity addresses the status of antagonistic beings interacting within the social space of the native community which encompasses both the ecosystem of the living and the ...

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Co-creating commensality [PDF]

open access: yes
Commensality is the feeling of fellowship when eating at the table with others. In a research context, commensality unveils dimensions of social relations between people, as well as human and non-human actors.
