Microplastics Derived from Commercial Fishing Activities
Ordinary fishing activity is a source of microplastics to the sea that is often overlooked and scarcely reported in the literature. In this paper, we estimate the number of microplastics in the ocean that originates from the wear and tear of different fishing gear used during ordinary, commercial fishing. The wear comes mainly from rope abrasion caused

5‐Aminolevulinic acid combined with ferric ammonium citrate (5‐ALA/FAC) stimulates dermal papilla cell activity and promotes hair follicle growth. The treatment enhances ERK and AKT signaling, increases hair‐inductive gene expression, and restores dermal papilla function suppressed by dihydrotestosterone and oxidative stress, resulting in enhanced hair

Managing Nile perch using slot size: is it possible? [PDF]
The fishery of Lake Victoria became a major commercial fishery with the introduction of Nile perch in 1950s and 1960s. Biological and population characteristics point to a fishery under intense fishing pressure attributed to increased capacity and use of

This paper reveals how human lactoferrin–albumin fusion (hLF‐HSA) potently suppresses lung adenocarcinoma cell migration. hLF‐HSA upregulates NHE7, leading to Golgi alkalization, disruption of the Golgi secretome, downregulation of MMP1, and reversal of EMT. These findings suggest a novel Golgi‐targeting strategy to suppress cancer cell migration.

Socioeconomic and bioeconomic performance of Philippine fisheries in the recent decades [PDF]
The fishing industry in the Philippines was tantamount to a marine capture fishery in the 1950s to 1960s. Aquaculture and inland fishery production were not significant.

Is Offshore Commercial Fishing a Prospect in the Pitcairn Islands? [PDF]
Past studies in the Pitcairn Islands exclusive economic zone concur that fish stocks are low and that large-scale commercial fishing is not economically viable.

The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Drugs previously repurposed to target blood cancers reduced neuroblastoma and glioblastoma cell growth and viability. However, their levels of anticancer activity were different and their clinical application may be problematic due to side effects at effective doses.
