An alternative surgical approach reduces variability following filament induction of experimental stroke in mice

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2017
Animal models are essential for understanding the pathology of stroke and investigating potential treatments. However, in vivo stroke models are associated, particularly in mice, with high variability in lesion volume.

ATF5‐Dependent GDF15 Expression Mediates Anesthesia‐Induced Neuroprotection Against Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Anesthesia‐induced preconditioning protects against perioperative stroke. By manipulating ATF5 in excitatory neurons, it is shown that anesthesia‐driven ATF5 upregulation activates the mitochondrial unfolded protein response (UPRmt) and elevates GDF15 expression.

Effects of external irradiation of the neck region on intima media thickness of the common carotid artery

open access: yesCardiovascular Ultrasound, 2010
BackgroundSeveral studies have shown that common carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) is increased after radiotherapy (RT) to the head and neck. However, further studies are needed to define the exact mechanism of radiation-induced injury in large ...

Endothelial BMP6 Drives Hemodynamic‐Dependent VSMCs Calcification in Carotid Atherosclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study demonstrates that endothelial cell (EC)‐derived BMP6 promotes the osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs) through cell‐cell interactions. Additionally, the researchers preliminarily explore the driving effect of hemodynamic factors on BMP6‐induced calcification and reveal the regulatory role of KLF4 on BMP6.

A Patient‐Derived Organoid Biobank of Adamantinomatous Craniopharyngioma as a Platform for Drug Discovery

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study successfully establishes adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma (ACP) patient‐derived organoids (PDOs) that preserve the histopathological and genetic features of the original tumors. Through drug sensitivity assays and subsequent mechanistic analyses, the study demonstrates that Ceritinib exerts its inhibitory effects on ACP PDO growth by ...

Iron Overload Mediates the Differential Cell Fate of Astrocytes from Neurons and Its Regulatory Mechanisms in Ischemic Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Upon ischemia/reperfusion‐induced iron overload condition, neurons and astrocytes exhibit similar oxidative stress changes but opposite alterations in endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms, leading to divergent ferroptotic outcomes. The iron deposition and neuronal loss are increased within the perilesional cortex of stroke patients ...

Two Cases Treated by Different Strategies for Common Carotid Artery Dissection with Thrombosis Due to a Type A Aortic Dissection

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery
Total arch replacement and stent trunk were performed for two patients. One of these underwent a total bilateral carotid artery replacement in anatomical position while the other underwent partial carotid artery dissection. The first patient demonstrated

Low prevalence of significant carotid artery disease in Iranian patients undergoing elective coronary artery bypass

open access: yesCardiovascular Ultrasound, 2007
Background Coronary artery bypass grafting ranks as one of the most frequent operations worldwide. The presence of carotid artery stenosis may increase the stroke rate in the perioperative period.
