Targeting the ARRDC3–DRP1 Axis via hUMSC‐Derived Exosomal CRYAB for Neuroprotection in Cerebral Ischemia/Reperfusion Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Intranasally administered hUMSC‐derived exosomes modulate the CRYAB–ARRDC3–Drp1 axis, alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction and ferroptosis, enhancing neuronal survival, reducing oxidative stress, and promoting functional recovery in ischemia‐reperfusion injury, offering a promising therapeutic strategy for ischemic stroke.

Common carotid artery embolism treated distally with endovascular therapy and proximally with endoscopic hybrid surgery using the carotid endarterectomy technique: A case report

open access: yesInterdisciplinary Neurosurgery, 2023
Background: We herein report a case of common carotid artery occlusion in which the distal portion of the occlusion was treated endovascularly and the proximal portion was revascularized by neuro endoscopy using the carotid endarterectomy technique. Case

Nanotherapies for Atherosclerosis: Targeting, Catalysis, and Energy Transduction

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Atherosclerosis management is hindered by poor drug targeting and plaque heterogeneity. Nanotechnology overcomes these barriers via three core strategies: (1) target‐engineered nanocarriers that achieve lesion‐specific precision via ligand modification, biomimetic camouflage, stimuli‐responsive release, and self‐propelling nanomotors; (2) catalytic ...

Clinical Studies Target Fewer Complications, Better Outcomes for Vascular Surgery [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Two studies at the Jefferson Vascular Center (JVC) are assessing innovative methods to reduce risk of complications — and increase positive outcomes — for vascular surgery patients. Here, Paul DiMuzio, MD, FACS, William M. Measey Professor of Surgery and

Magnetic Micro‐ and Nanorobots for Precision Thrombolysis: Design Strategies and Translational Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Micro‐ and nanorobots for targeted thrombolysis. This perspective elaborates on the clinical indication of blood clot disorders and current limitations for treatment. As a novel, alternative solution, micro‐ and nanorobots can be used to treat and break down thrombi.

Type A aortic dissection secondary to a left common carotid artery dissection

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports, 2019
Common carotid artery dissection is an unusual clinical event that most commonly occurs secondary to type A aortic dissection. We present a rare case of spontaneous common carotid artery dissection temporally preceding aortic dissection.

Bilateral common carotid artery aneurysms [PDF]

open access: yesVascular Medicine, 2006
Tracheal deviation was incidentally discovered on a chest X-ray of a 40-year-old man (Panel A). He had no focal complaints and the examination of his neck was unremarkable. However, a CT-scan revealed aneurysmal dilation of the proximal portion of both common carotid arteries (CCA) compressing the trachea (Panel B; R CCA/ L CCA, right/left common ...

Genetic susceptibility loci for cardiovascular disease and their impact on atherosclerotic plaques [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease in part caused by lipid uptake in the vascular wall, but the exact underlying mechanisms leading to acute myocardial infarction and stroke remain poorly understood. Large consortia identified
