Artificial nest boxes increased nesting opportunities for birds when tailored to their ecological needs. More complex and heterogeneous landscapes with greater forest and shrub cover increased nest box use. Nest box placement height and management‐related factors also influenced their occupation.

The function of three main call types in common cuckoo [PDF]
AbstractAcoustic signals play a key role in shaping the relationships in birds. Common cuckoosCuculus canorusare known to produce various call types, but the function of these calls has only been studied recently. Here, we used a combination of field recordings (conducted in 2017) and playback experiments (conducted in 2018) to investigate the ...

Separable solutions to a brood-parasite dynamics model
Common Cuckoo is a brood-parasite which lays its egg in the nest of other bird species and use them to raise its young. We present a Common Cuckoo and a host bird interaction deterministic model taking into account maternal care of offspring. The model

This study analyses 50 years of bird ringing data from Hilbre Bird Observatory to investigate how local weather affects migratory timing and stopover behaviour. A key novel finding is the interactive effect of temperature and rainfall—warmer conditions tend to advance arrivals, but simultaneous increases in rainfall can delay them, revealing opposing ...

Rat swarm position update mechanism in HRSA‐RSO, illustrating the collective exploration behavior around the prey target (A*, B*). ABSTRACT The permutation flow shop scheduling problem (PFSSP) is a classical NP‐hard problem that aims to determine an optimal job sequence across machines to minimize makespan.

Modelling the evolution of common cuckoo host‐races: speciation or genetic swamping? [PDF]
AbstractCo‐evolutionary arms races have provided clear evidence for evolutionary change, especially in host–parasite systems. The evolution of host‐specific races in the common cuckoo (Cuculus canorus), however, is also an example where sexual conflict influences the outcome.

Seasonal increase in nest defense, but not egg rejection, in a cuckoo host
The interactions between avian brood parasites and their hosts provide an informative and easy-to-handle system for studying coevolution. Avian brood parasitism reduces the reproductive success of hosts, and thus, hosts have evolved anti-parasitic ...

This study presents a lightweight and explainable ransomware detection framework using dynamic API‐call features and ensemble machine learning. The LightGBM model achieves high accuracy (AUC = 0.9937) with low false positives. SHAP‐based feature importance reveals key API behaviors enabling interpretable, efficient, and deployment‐ready ransomware ...

Many proofs in discrete mathematics and theoretical computer science are based on the probabilistic method. To prove the existence of a good object, we pick a random object and show that it is bad with low probability.
