Ultra–short-period WD Binaries Are Not Undergoing Strong Tidal Heating

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Double white dwarf (WD) binaries are increasingly being discovered at short orbital periods where strong tidal effects and significant tidal heating signatures may occur.

Climate requirements for cultivated Liberica coffee (Coffea liberica) and consequences for its use and development as a crop species

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
The global coffee industry, supporting 25 million smallholder farmers, is vulnerable to climate change. Diversifying the coffee species portfolio beyond Arabica and robusta is a promising intervention. Liberica coffee could provide adaptive capacity, although its climate parameters for cultivation are poorly known.

The Slow Brightening of WNTR23bzdiq/WTP19aalzlk: Possible Onset of Common Envelope Evolution in an Asymptotic Giant Branch Star?

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present WNTR23bzdiq/WTP19aalzlk, a slow eruption of an early-asymptotic giant branch (AGB) star in M31 identified by the Wide-field Infrared Transient Explorer near-infrared (NIR) and the NEOWISE mid-infrared (MIR) surveyors.

Reduced‐Order Modeling of Energetic Materials Using Physics‐Aware Recurrent Convolutional Neural Networks in a Latent Space (LatentPARC)

open access: yesPropellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics, EarlyView.
Physics‐Aware Recurrent Convolutional Neural Networks (PARC) can reliably learn the thermomechanics of energetic materials as a function of morphology. This work introduces LatentPARC, which accelerates PARC by modeling the dynamics in a low‐dimensional latent space.

Helium-burning Blue Large-amplitude Pulsators: A Population Study with BPASS

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Blue large-amplitude pulsators (BLAPs) are a class of radially pulsating stars with effective temperatures ranging from 20,000 to 35,000 K and pulsation periods between 7 and 75 minutes.

Formation of the dormant black holes with luminous companions from binary or triple systems

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Context. Recently, a class of dormant black hole (BH) binaries with luminous companions (dBH-LCs) has been observed, such as Gaia BH1, BH2, and BH3. Unlike previously discovered X-ray BH binaries, the observed dBH-LCs have relatively long orbital periods

Engineering Dosimetric Excellence In Total Body Irradiation: Tomotherapy‐Driven Protocols for Precision and Reproducibility

open access: yesPrecision Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
• Objective: Assess helical Tomotherapy‐based TBI for clinical feasibility, dosimetric reproducibility, and in‐vivo accuracy using dual‐orientation simulation and patient‐specific QA. • Methodology: Implementation of ArcCHECK 3D diode array, ionization chamber verification, and in‐vivo dosimetry with OSLDs at 16 anatomical sites to ensure precise dose ...

Identifying Thorne–Żytkow Objects through Neutrinos

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
Thorne–Żytkow objects (T $\dot{{\rm{Z}}}$ Os) have been predicted to form when a neutron star is engulfed by a diffuse, convective giant envelope. Accretion onto a neutron star at a rate that is larger than 10 ^−4 M _⊙ yr ^−1 is expected to lead to ...

AlphaFold2‐Guided Cyclic Peptide Stabilizer Design to Target Protein–Protein Interactions

open access: yesProteins: Structure, Function, and Bioinformatics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The control and modulation of protein–protein interactions (PPIs) is of central importance for the majority of biological processes and most biomedical applications. Stabilization of PPIs, besides inhibition, is of growing pharmaceutical interest.

Double White Dwarf Binaries in SDSS-V DR19: The Discovery of a Rare DA+DQ White Dwarf Binary with a 31 hr Orbital Period

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Binaries of two white dwarfs (WDs) are an important class of astrophysical objects that help us reconstruct the complex processes involved in stellar evolution and are theorized to lead to Type Ia supernovae.
