Abstract The common marmoset occurs in the eastern and coastal forests of Equatorial Brazil. It has also been introduced into forests as far south as Rio de Janeiro. It is not threatened at present (Mittermeier et al. 1986, IUCN 1990).

Infanticide and Cannibalism in Wild Common Marmosets
Folia Primatologica, 2003Infanticide has been observed in many different species [1], including common marmosets [2-4], due to sexual selection, reproductive strategies or resource competition [3, 5, 6], which may ultimately lead to exploitation (cannibalism) [1, 7]. Wild callithrichids have a very flexible mating system, including monogamy, polygynandry, polyandry and ...

Spontaneous Nasopharyngeal Malignancies in the Common Marmoset
Veterinary Pathology, 1985Comparative studies of spontaneous animal tumors offer a good opportunity to determine cause and to develop improved treatment and prevention of cancer in man.I5 The nose, mouth and esophagus are common sites for neoplasms in nonhuman primates; they account for approximately half of the benign and malignant cases rep~rted.~.'.~~.

Tardive dyskinesia model in the common marmoset
Movement Disorders, 2002AbstractThirteen adult common marmosets (Callithrix jacchus) were given once‐monthly injections of haloperidol decanoate (5–15 mg/kg i.m.) for one year. Thereafter, drug‐free and treatment periods alternated at 3‐month intervals. After 2.5 to 14 months, 12 monkeys showed symptoms of tardive dyskinesia (TD), such as periocular and perioral twitchings ...

The Common Marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) as a Model in Toxicology
Toxicologic Pathology, 2003The common marmoset, Callithrix jacchus, is the smallest nonhuman primate commonly used in biomedical research. Marmoset characteristics and propensities have enabled them to be used in a wide range of research as a model of human disease, physiology, drug metabolism, general toxicology, and reproductive biology. This paper provides a general overview

Spontaneous Adrenal and Hepatic Myelolipomas in the Common Marmoset
Toxicologic Pathology, 1994Myelolipomas occurring simultaneously in the adrenal and liver were found in a 2.7-yr-old, bred female common marmoset ( Callithrix jacchus). The animal bore single adrenal and multiple hepatic myelolipomas. The adrenal myelolipoma consisted of mature adipose cells and focal collections of normal hematopoietic elements and was unencapsulated.

Effects of lurasidone on executive function in common marmosets
Behavioural Brain Research, 2013Cognitive impairment is one of the major symptoms of schizophrenia, and is considered largely due to dysfunctions in the prefrontal cortex (PFC). Lurasidone, a novel atypical antipsychotic agent with high binding affinity for dopamine D2, serotonin 5-HT7, 5-HT2A and 5-HT1A receptors has been reported to have superior efficacy in rodents' models of ...

The digestive strategy of the common marmoset, Callithrix jacchus
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 1996Digestive tract morphology and function were studied in the common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus), a small (350 g) exudivore with a well-developed caecum. Transit times (times of first appearance of the markers in the faeces following a pulse dose in the food) were similar for Co-EDTA, which marks the fluid phase of the digesta, and Cr-mordanted cell ...

Behavioural effects of anxiogenic agents in the common marmoset
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 1992The effects of the anxiogenic agents FG7142, caffeine, pentylenetetrazole, and amphetamine were assessed in two anxiety situations in the marmoset, first in an "anxiogenic" test based on the animal's response to a human observer standing in front of the home cage and second in a low-anxiety situation where animals behaviour was videotaped in the ...
