A correlated motif approach for finding short linear motifs from protein interaction networks

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2006
Background An important class of interaction switches for biological circuits and disease pathways are short binding motifs. However, the biological experiments to find these binding motifs are often laborious and expensive.

Directional Dependence of Experimental Trunk Stiffness: Role of Muscle-Stiffness Variation of Nonneural Origin

open access: yesApplied Bionics and Biomechanics, 2020
Trunk stiffness is an important parameter for trunk stability analysis and needs to be evaluated accurately. Discrepancies regarding the dependence of trunk stiffness on the direction of movement in the sagittal plane suggest inherent sources of error ...

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Common reasoning in games: a Lewisian analysis of common knowledge of rationality [PDF]

open access: yes
The game-theoretic assumption of ‘common knowledge of rationality’ leads to paradoxes when rationality is represented in a Bayesian framework as cautious expected utility maximisation with independent beliefs (ICEU).

Artifact from myomectomy/C-Section on MRI images – what does this mean for MR-guided focused ultrasound candidacy for uterine fibroids?

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hyperthermia, 2019
Background: Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS) is used for non-surgical treatment of uterine fibroids, often in patients who have had prior myomectomy or Cesarean section. The presence of post-surgical MRI artifacts along the beam path

YlmG1 is localized exclusively to the chloroplast envelope membrane and is involved in preprotein translocation in Arabidopsis thaliana

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytosolically synthesized chloroplast preproteins are translocated across the outer and inner envelope membranes through translocons called TOC and TIC, respectively. In green algae and plants, the TIC core is composed of essential membrane proteins, Tic12, Tic20, and Tic214.

Groundwater dominates snowmelt runoff and controls streamflow efficiency in the western United States

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
Climate change in seasonally snow-covered mountain catchments is reducing water supply and decreasing streamflow predictability. Here, we use tritium age dating to show that contrary to the common assumption that snowmelt quickly contributes to runoff ...

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Fundamental Limits of Coded Caching in Request-Robust D2D Communication Networks

open access: yesEntropy
D2D coded caching, originally introduced by Ji, Caire, and Molisch, significantly improves communication efficiency by applying the multi-cast technology proposed by Maddah-Ali and Niesen to the D2D network.

Pulmonary vein anatomy and its variations in a Turkish atrial fibrillation cohort undergoing cryoballoon-based catheter ablation

open access: yesTürk Kardiyoloji Derneği Arşivi, 2017
Objective: Pulmonary vein (PV) anatomy has drawn attention since assumption that atrial fibrillation (AF) may originate from PVs and that electrical isolation of PVs may be beneficial in eliminating these triggers.
