Development of a Novel Double‐Layered Wound Dressing Composed of Chitosan Film and Tigecycline‐Loaded Electrospun Polycaprolactone Nanofibers

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
The antibacterial double‐layered wound dressing is fabricated using chitosan (CH) film as the contact layer and tigecycline (Tig)‐loaded poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) nanofibers as the top layer. The CH film has a uniform morphology, and the PCL‐Tig nanofibers show a smooth, randomly oriented, and beadless structure.

Dilemma of community-acquired pneumonia

open access: yesEgyptian Journal of Chest Disease and Tuberculosis, 2019
The lungs are particularly susceptible to infection, owing to continuous direct interaction with the external atmosphere in the process of gas exchange, and many anatomical facts, such as the presence of the pharynx, which constitutes a common pathway ...

Significance of anaerobes and oral bacteria in community-acquired pneumonia. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BACKGROUND: Molecular biological modalities with better detection rates have been applied to identify the bacteria causing infectious diseases. Approximately 10-48% of bacterial pathogens causing community-acquired pneumonia are not identified using ...

Omadacycline for Community‐Acquired Bacterial Pneumonia

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2019
BACKGROUND Omadacycline, a new once‐daily aminomethylcycline antibiotic agent that can be administered intravenously or orally, reaches high concentrations in pulmonary tissues and is active against common pathogens that cause community‐acquired ...

Seven questions for a student's donor: Evaluation of a fictional conversation lends insight into professional identity formation in medical students

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Reflection exercises have been used within anatomy education to evaluate empathy, humanism, and professionalism. A typical reflection exercise consists of directed prompts to guide the student's reflection as it relates to the experience and/or research question.

The evaluation of next‐generation sequencing assisted pathogenic detection in immunocompromised hosts with pulmonary infection: A retrospective study

open access: yesThe Clinical Respiratory Journal, Volume 16, Issue 12, Page 793-801, December 2022., 2022
In this study, we discovered that next‐generation sequencing (NGS)‐assisted pathogenic detection may improve detection efficiency and is associated with better clinical outcomes in immunocompromised pulmonary‐infected patients with radiographic evidence of bilateral diffuse lesions.

Diagnostic Performance of Plasma SP-D, KL-6, and CC16 in Acutely Hospitalised Patients Suspected of Having Community-Acquired Pneumonia—A Diagnostic Accuracy Study

open access: yesDiagnostics
Community-acquired pneumonia is a common cause of acute hospitalisation. Identifying patients with community-acquired pneumonia among patients suspected of having the disease can be a challenge, which causes unnecessary antibiotic treatment.

Integrative Analysis for COVID-19 Patient Outcome Prediction [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
While image analysis of chest computed tomography (CT) for COVID-19 diagnosis has been intensively studied, little work has been performed for image-based patient outcome prediction. Management of high-risk patients with early intervention is a key to lower the fatality rate of COVID-19 pneumonia, as a majority of patients recover naturally. Therefore,
