High‐velocity nasal insufflation versus noninvasive positive pressure ventilation for moderate acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in the emergency department: A randomized clinical trial

open access: yesAcademic Emergency Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in the emergency department (ED) involve dyspnea, cough, and chest discomfort; frequent exacerbations are associated with increased mortality and reduced quality of life. Alcohol consumption and high‐molecular‐weight adiponectin levels are interactively associated with all‐cause mortality among community‐dwelling persons

open access: yesAlcohol, Clinical and Experimental Research, EarlyView.
Alcohol consumption showed a U‐shaped relationship with all‐cause mortality, while adiponectin levels were dose‐dependently linked to mortality. Furthermore, an interaction between alcohol intake and adiponectin levels was noted, regardless of conventional cardiovascular risk factors. For a deeper understanding of the mechanisms driving this connection

Source population and time spent in captivity affect survival and reproduction of long‐distance translocated northern bobwhites

open access: yesAnimal Conservation, EarlyView.
Long‐distance translocations of northern bobwhites are increasingly used to access source populations with sufficient densities for translocation. This study compared the survival and productivity of bobwhites translocated from the South Texas Plains and the Floridian Coastal Plain to the Floridian Coastal Plain, revealing higher survival and fecundity
