Similar biogeographic patterns of abundant and rare bacterial communities are driven by distinct assembly mechanisms in grassland soils

open access: yesGrassland Research
Background The regional species pool and local community assembly processes shape the biogeographic patterns of soil bacterial community diversity. However, how community assembly mechanisms regulate biogeographic patterns in rare and abundant bacterial ...

DNA Replication Errors Drive Genome‐Wide Small Inverted Triplication Dynamics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study provides insight into the dynamic equilibrium mechanism of a novel structural variant, small inverted triplication (SIT), which is generated by misalignment of the 3’ flap generated under DNA replication stress with palindromic sequence. Alternatively, the end sequence may fold back on itself to form an inverted fragment.

Patterns of phylogenetic community structure of sand dune plant communities in the Yucatan Peninsula: the role of deterministic and stochastic processes in community assembly

open access: yes, 2018
Background: Tropical sand dunes are ideal systems for understanding drivers of community assembly as dunes are subject to both deterministic and stochastic processes.

Dissecting the assembly process of benthic communities from Neotropical streams

open access: yes, 2020
I used the metacommunity framework to dissect the relative influences of dispersal (in ecological and evolutionary timeframes), selection (driven by abiotic factors) and ecological drift on the assembly process of freshwater benthic communities. The study was carried out at 26-32 different stream segments within an area of about 40,000km2, in the ...

Data_Sheet_1_Nexus of Stochastic and Deterministic Processes on Microbial Community Assembly in Biological Systems.docx

open access: yes, 2019
Microbial community assembly in engineered biological systems is often simultaneously influenced by stochastic and deterministic processes, and the nexus of these two mechanisms remains to be further investigated.

Bridging ecological assembly process and community stability upon bacterial invasions

open access: yesThe ISME Journal
Abstract Understanding the link between microbial community stability and assembly processes is crucial in microbial ecology. Here, we investigated whether the impact of biotic disturbances would depend on the processes controlling community assembly.

Heterogeneity of the horizontal environment drives community assemblages and species coexistence of prokaryotic communities in cold seep sediments

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionMicroorganisms play important roles in methane oxidation and carbon turnover of cold seep ecosystem. Although the microbial diversity of cold seep sediments has been reported, the community assembly processes, species coexistence patterns ...

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...

Using optimized dimensionality reduction and machine learning to explain driving processes of phytoplankton community assembly in large mountain rivers

open access: yesEcological Indicators
Large mountain rivers create unique aquatic habitats and become one of biodiversity hot spots within ecosystems. Since phytoplankton constitutes a crucial component of primary productivity in aquatic ecosystems, understanding its community assembly ...
