Genetic Research in Native Communities [PDF]
People are living longer because of advances made through biomedical research. The challenge in genetic research on indigenous peoples is that it raises a complex range of legal, ethical, social, spiritual, and political issues. The current research paradigm is one of paternalism and biocolonialism.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Community structure and population genetics of Eastern Mediterranean polychaetes
Species and genetic diversity are often found to co-vary since they are influenced by external factors in similar ways. In this paper, we analyse the genetic differences of the abundant polychaete Hermodice carunculata (Pallas, 1776) during two ...

Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Medical genetics services in the city of São Paulo, Brazil
The city of S (a) over tildeo Paulo is located in the center of a metropolitan area with nearly 18 million inhabitants and 300,000 births/year. the currently existing medical genetics services are unable to meet the demand, due to their insufficient ...

Communicating genetic risk information [PDF]
It is envisaged that genetic information will be used, together with other types of information, to assess individuals' risks of developing a variety of common conditions. Such risk assessments will involve providing probabilistic information partly based upon results of genetic tests in order to facilitate behaviour change without causing excessive ...

Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

In the present work, we have identified a transcriptional signature based on the differential expression of six genes (BCL2&MAST4, HSH2D&LAT2, METRN&PITPNM2) that would facilitate the early detection of T‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (T‐ALL) patients prone to a poor treatment response and could be implemented at diagnosis, along with other risk ...

Advances from pharmacogenetics (PGx) have not been implemented into health care to the expected extent. One gap that will be addressed in this study is a lack of reporting on clinical validity and clinical utility of PGx-tests.
