Irregular locus of the commuting variety of reductive symmetric Lie algebras and rigid pairs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The aim of this paper is to describe the irregular locus of the commuting variety of a reductive symmetric Lie algebra. More precisely, we want to enlighten a remark of Popov.

Unimodular Commutators [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 1987
Let R R be a principal ideal ring and M k , n {M_{k,n}} the set of k × n k \times n matrices over R R . The following statments are proved: (a) If k ≤ n

Commutation matrices and Commutation tensors [PDF]

open access: yesLinear and Multilinear Algebra, 2018
The commutation matrix was first introduced in statistics as a transposition matrix by Murnaghan in 1938. In this paper, we first investigate the commutation matrix which is employed to transform a matrix into its transpose. We then extend the concept of the commutation matrix to commutation tensor and use the commutation tensor to achieve the ...

Von Neumann's inequality for commuting weighted shifts [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We show that every multivariable contractive weighted shift dilates to a tuple of commuting unitaries, and hence satisfies von Neumann's inequality. This answers a question of Lubin and Shields.

Commutator rings [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2006
A ring is called a commutator ring if every element is a sum of additive commutators. In this note we give examples of such rings. In particular, we show that given any ring R, a right R-module N, and a nonempty set Ω, EndR(⌖ΩN) and EndR(ΠΩN) are commutator rings if and only if either Ω is infinite or EndR(N) is itself a commutator ring.

Multiple commutator formulas [PDF]

open access: yesIsrael Journal of Mathematics, 2012
Let A be a quasi-finite R-algebra (i.e., a direct limit of module finite algebras) with identity. Let I_i, i=0,...,m, be two-sided ideals of A, \GL_n(A,I_i) the principal congruence subgroup of level I_i in GL_n(A) and E_n(A,I_i) be the relative elementary subgroup of level I_i.
