The risk of comorbidity [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of the Rheumatic Diseases, 2012
The field of rheumatology has shown great interest in comorbidity-related risk among patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). A recent paper reported that a person with RA has a similar risk of sustaining a myocardial infarction as a person with diabetes mellitus (DM), and this risk is comparable to that of a healthy person 10 years older.1 Several ...

Comparative activity of dimethyl fumarate derivative IDMF in three models relevant to multiple sclerosis and psoriasis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
IDMF is a derivative of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) with a unique therapeutic potential at the intersection of psoriasis and multiple sclerosis. Here, we demonstrate that it compares favorably with DMF and its other derivatives, such as Diroximel, in the zebrafish, microglia, and lymphocyte models.

Improving Disease Comorbidity Prediction Based on Human Interactome with Biologically Supervised Graph Embedding [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Computational Advances in Bio and Medical Sciences (ICCABS 2023). Lecture Notes in Computer Science, vol 14548
Comorbidity carries significant implications for disease understanding and management. The genetic causes for comorbidity often trace back to mutations occurred either in the same gene associated with two diseases or in different genes associated with different diseases respectively but coming into connection via protein-protein interactions. Therefore,

Clinical Utility Gains from Incorporating Comorbidity and Geographic Location Information into Risk Estimation Equations for Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Objective: There are several efforts to re-learn the 2013 ACC/AHA pooled cohort equations (PCE) for patients with specific comorbidities and geographic locations. With over 363 customized risk models in the literature, we aim to evaluate such revised models to determine if the performance improvements translate to gains in clinical utility.
