Estimation of the degree of polarization in compact polarimetry
2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010The degree of polarization (DoP) has long been recognized as one of the most important parameters characterizing partially polarized electromagnetic waves. This parameter can be effectively used to describe the information content of polarimetric images collected by synthetic aperture radar (SAR) systems. Estimation of DoP is standardly performed using

Compact radar polarimetry for fire scar mapping and landcover classification
IET International Radar Conference 2013, 2013Compact polarimetry (compact-pol) architecture is a new hybrid mode for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and is proposed for the future Canadian Radarsat Constellation Mission (RCM) and the future Japanese ALOS-2 mission. The Compact-pol mode transmits single circular polarization (left/right) and receives simultaneous coherent orthogonal linear ...

Evaluating compact SAR polarimetry for tropical forest monitoring
SPIE Proceedings, 2015Fully polarimetric Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) or PolSAR has been proven useful for diverse applications related to environment. Nevertheless, problems are arising since satellite-borne PolSAR requires special arrangements on data acquisition and consumes higher energy for signal transmission.

Assessment of compact polarimetry over different tropical environment and dataset
2010 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium, 2010This paper presents different radar polarimetric modes over different study sites in Tropical environment: Full polarimetry (FP), Dual Polarimetry (DP) and Compact Polarimetry (CP). By using SVM classification, we show the capabilities of each polarimetric mode linked to the scattering model assumption of the fully polarimetric reconstruction for CP ...

On the use of compact polarimetry SAR for ship detection
ISPRS Journal of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing, 2013Abstract Quad-pol data are generally acknowledged as providing the highest performance in ship detection applications using SAR data. Yet quad-pol data have half the swath width of single and dual-pol data and are thus less useful for maritime surveillance, where wide area coverage is crucial.

Precision and widefield polarimetry with the Australia Telescope Compact Array
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2002This paper describes some of the polarimetry done with the Australia Telescope Compact Array (ATCA). Comparatively low and stable instrumental polarization allows high quality polarimetric images to be formed. The instrument has proven particularly successful in studying low level circular polarization.

The Compact Polarimetry Alternative for Spaceborne SAR at Low Frequency
IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing, 2008In spaceborne synthetic aperture radar (SAR), a single-polarization on-transmit offers twice the swath width compared to full polarization. This is linked to SAR system design issues, and, without getting into the technical details deserving by themselves a full paper, we can just mention the swath characteristics of ALOS PALSAR (the Advanced Land ...

Forest classification using extracted PolSAR features from Compact Polarimetry data
Advances in Space Research, 2016Abstract This study investigates the ability of extracted Polarimetric Synthetic Aperture RADAR (PolSAR) features from Compact Polarimetry (CP) data for forest classification. The CP is a new mode that is recently proposed in Dual Polarimetry (DP) imaging system.
