Exploring Polarimetric Properties Preservation for PolSAR Image Reconstruction With Complex‐Valued Convolutional Neural Networks

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 20, Issue 1, January/December 2026.
Polarimetric SAR data's inherent complex‐valued nature demands algorithms that work directly with complex representations, yet most deep‐learning approaches sidestep this by converting to the real domain. We implement and evaluate complex‐valued convolutional autoencoders that compress and accurately reconstruct full‐polarimetric SAR signals—preserving

Properties, mechanisms, and perspectives of ultrafast laser modifications in silicate glass volume

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Glass Science, Volume 17, Issue 1, January 2026.
Abstract Ultrafast laser irradiation of glass enables highly localized structural transformations within the material's bulk, unlocking diverse applications in photonics, data storage, and microfabrication. Here, we provide a concise yet comprehensive overview of the main types of femtosecond laser‐induced modifications in silica‐based glasses (Types I,

[HgX2] Linear Group Enabled Ultraviolet Birefringent Crystal RbHg5Br11 with Strong Optical Anisotropy and Wide Bandgap

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 45, December 4, 2025.
Based on the “linear‐group” design strategy, a high performance ultraviolet birefringent material RbHg5Br11 with aligned linear [HgBr2] units, demonstrating a large birefringence (Δn ≈ 0.35@546 nm); a wide optical bandgap (≈3.73 eV); as well as a good crystal growth habit; is rationally designed; and fabricated by a simple solution method.

Assessment of Satellite Altimetric and Compact Polarimetric SAR Parameters Over Early Spring Snow-Covered Landfast Sea Ice in the Canadian Arctic

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
The snow cover on first-year sea ice is a critically underobserved parameter in the Arctic sea ice system, recognized by the World Meteorological Organization as an Essential Climate Variable due to its influence on energy exchange between the atmosphere

X-ray polarimetry with a micro pattern gas detector with pixel readout

open access: yes, 2002
In astronomy there are basically four kinds of observations to extract the information carried by electromagnetic radiation: photometry, imaging, spectroscopy, and polarimetry.

Shedding new light on the Crab with polarized X-rays

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2017
Strong magnetic fields, synchrotron emission, and Compton scattering are omnipresent in compact celestial X-ray sources. Emissions in the X-ray energy band are consequently expected to be linearly polarized. X-ray polarimetry provides a unique diagnostic

Fine classification of crops based on an inductive transfer learning method with compact polarimetric SAR images

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing
Compact polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (CP SAR) reduces fully polarimetric SAR system complexity and expands the imaging swath. Generally, fine classification of crop types relies on many labeled training samples.

Retrieval of Oil–Water Mixture Ratio at Ocean Surface Using Compact Polarimetry Synthetic Aperture Radar

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2019
The oil–water mixture ratio for oil spills on the ocean surface is an important parameter for volume estimation of oil spills, response strategy for the oil spills, cleanup operations, and remediation planning for the impacts on wildlife.
