Circulating histones as clinical biomarkers in critically ill conditions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Circulating histones are emerging as promising biomarkers in critical illness due to their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potential. Detection methods such as ELISA and mass spectrometry provide reliable approaches for quantifying histone levels in plasma samples.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis sulfurtransferase SseA is activated by its neighboring gene product Rv3284

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

Isometry groups of proper metric spaces

open access: yes, 2012
Given a locally compact Polish space X, a necessary and sufficient condition for a group G of homeomorphisms of X to be the full isometry group of (X,d) for some proper metric d on X is given.

Polynomial Compactness in Banach Spaces [PDF]

open access: yesRocky Mountain Journal of Mathematics, 1998
We investigate infinite dimensional Banach spaces equipped with the initial topology with respect to the continuous polynomials. We show nonlinear properties for this topology in both the real and the complex case. A new property for Banach spaces, polynomial Dunford-Pettis property, is introduced.

Compact Space-Like $m$-Submanifolds in a Pseudo-Riemannian Sphere $S_p^{m+p}(c)$

open access: yes, 1995
In this paper, we shall consider the problem whether or not there exists a compact space-like m-dimensional submanifold in a pseudo-Riemannian sphere $S_{p}^{m+p}(c)$ with parallel mean curvature vector which is not totally umbilic.

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

When is an ultracomplete space almost locally compact?

open access: yesApplied General Topology, 2006
We study spaces X which have a countable outer base in βX; they are called ultracomplete in the most recent terminology. Ultracompleteness implies Cech-completeness and is implied by almost local compactness (≡having all points of non-local compactness ...

Some remarks on bv(s)-metric spaces and fixed point results with an application

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis, 2020
We compare the newly defined bv(s)-metric spaces with several other abstract spaces like metric spaces, b-metric spaces and show that some well-known results, which hold in the latter class of spaces, may not hold in bv(s)-metric spaces.

Inverse design and demonstration of a compact and broadband on-chip wavelength demultiplexer [PDF]

open access: yesNature Photonics, 2015
An on-chip integrated wavelength demultiplexer designed using an inverse computational algorithm is experimentally demonstrated. 1,300 and 1,550 nm wavelength light is sorted in a device area of just 2.8 × 2.8 μm2.

Genomics‐led approach to drug testing in models of undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
GA text Genomic data from undifferentiated pleomorphic sarcoma patients and preclinical models were used to inform a targeted drug screen. Selected compounds were tested in 2D and 3D cultures of UPS cell lines. A combination of trametinib and infigratinib was synergistic in the majority of UPS cell lines tested, which was further confirmed in an ex ...
