Effect of section thickness on microstructure and mechanical properties of compacted graphite iron for diesel engine applications

open access: yesHeliyon, 2021
Compacted (vermicular) graphite iron (CGI) is used in many substantial applications because its vermicular microstructure has superior mechanical properties at higher temperatures.

Using a neural network model to evaluate the mechanical and tribological properties of vermicular cast iron based on hardness [PDF]

open access: yesHeliyon, 2023
Measuring the tensile strength, wear resistance, and impact strength of metals, particularly cast iron, is complex and more expensive than performing hardness tests.

Effect of Tool Coatings on Machining Properties of Compacted Graphite Iron [PDF]

open access: yesMicromachines, 2022
Compacted graphite iron (CGI) has become the most ideal material for automotive engine manufacturing owing to its excellent mechanical properties. However, tools are severely worn during processing, considerably shortening their lifespan.

Rate sensitive continuum damage models and mesh dependence in finite element analyses. [PDF]

open access: yesScientificWorldJournal, 2014
The experiences from orthogonal machining simulations show that the Johnson‐Cook (JC) dynamic failure model exhibits significant element size dependence. Such mesh dependence is a direct consequence of the utilization of local damage models. The current contribution is an investigation of the extent of the possible pathological mesh dependence.

Modulation-assisted high speed machining of compacted graphite iron (CGI)

open access: yesJournal of Manufacturing Processes, 2013
Abstract The application of controlled, low-frequency modulation (∼100 Hz) superimposed onto the cutting process in the feed-direction – modulation-assisted machining (MAM) – is shown to be quite effective in reducing the wear of cubic boron nitride (CBN) tools when machining compacted graphite iron (CGI) at high machining speeds (>500 m/min).

Study on the Machinability of Cryogenic Milling for Compacted Graphite Iron [PDF]

open access: yes한국정밀공학회지, 2022
Compacted graphite iron (CGI) has been widely used in the automobile industry because of its good mechanical properties. CGI has better strength as compared to grey iron due to its internal structure.
