An investigation of abrasive waterjet machining of cubic boron nitride (CBN) with a softer abrasive material

open access: yesProcedia CIRP, 2020
Abstract For an effective machining of high-performance materials, high-strength cutting materials, e.g. cubic boron nitride (CBN), with high resistance to any kind of wear are used. However, these materials must also be able to be machined in order to produce geometric elements such as chip breakers or chip grooves. According to the current state of

3D characterization of cubic boron nitride (CBN) composites used as tool material for high precision abrasive machining processes [PDF]

open access: yesCeramics International, 2017
Cubic boron nitride (CBN) composites are widely used as cutting tool materials for high precision abrasive machining processes. They are composed of super hard CBN abrasives and a softer binder. CBN abrasives are one of the hardest materials. They are embedded in the binder which can be metallic, polymeric or ceramic.

Formation Mechanism of Finished Surface in Ultrahigh-Speed Grinding with cubic Boron Nitride (cBN) Wheels

open access: yesJSME International Journal Series C, 2006
In this paper, we describe the formation mechanism of a finished surface in ultrahigh-speed grinding under a peripheral wheel speed higher than 200m/s. Grinding experiments using a grinding machine tool equipped with an active magnetic bearing spindle have been conducted over a range of grinding speeds from 60 to 300m/s.
