Compact lumps [PDF]

open access: yesEPL (Europhysics Letters), 2015
We study the presence of lumplike solutions in models described by a single real scalar field with standard kinematics in two-dimensional spacetime. The results show several distinct models that support the presence of bell-shaped, lumplike structures which may live in a compact space.

Limestone Diagenetic Records Based on Petrographic Data of Sentolo Formation at Hargorejo Traverse, Kokap, Kulonprogo

open access: yesIndonesian Journal on Geoscience, 2014
DOI: 10.17014/ijog.v7i2.138Limestone diagenetic records of Sentolo Formation have been studied in order to trace the history of the geological processes after the deposition of the rocks.

Compact orthoalgebras [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the American Mathematical Society, 2005
We initiate a study of topological orthoalgebras (TOAs), concentrating on the compact case. Examples of TOAs include topological orthomodular lattices, and also the projection lattice of a Hilbert space. As the latter example illustrates, a lattice-ordered TOA need not be a topological lattice.

Aging dynamics and density relaxation in granular compaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present an analytical approach to the out of equilibrium dynamics of a class of kinetic lattice gases under gravity. The location of the jamming transition, the critical exponents, and the scaling functions characterizing the relaxation processes are ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Environmentally Friendly Compact Air-Insulated High-Voltage Substations

open access: yesEnergies, 2018
This paper investigates the possible options for achieving a substantial reduction in a substation footprint using air-insulated switchgear as a more environmentally-friendly alternative to gas-insulated substations that use SF6 gas.

Effective Porosity Profile at IODP Site C0002 in the Heart of the Nankai Accretionary Prism, and Its Use for Predicting In Situ Seismic Velocities

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2023
Using logging data and samples collected by the four expeditions of the International Ocean Discovery Program NanTroSEIZE drilling campaign that occupied Site C0002 in the Nankai margin located southwest of Japan, we determined effective porosity and ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Metamodel-Based Compaction of Spacecraft Operational Scenario Models for Efficient Review

open access: yesIEEE Access
Owing to the difficulty in performing repairs during flight, spacecraft are operated according to the operational scenarios tested before launch. Operational models, which are a type of SysML activity diagram, can be used to depict these scenarios using ...
