Companding nonlinear correlators
SPIE Proceedings, 2004In this paper we summarize a new category of all optical companding nonlinear correlators developed by our group in the last decade. All optical companding nonlinear correlators consist oftwo families: The first is based on energy transfer between the joint spectra of reference and signal images.

Adaptive Companded Pulse Code Modulation
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1983In this paper, a novel quantization scheme-adaptive companded pulse code modulation (ACPCM)-is proposed. It is shown that, for fine quantization of analog signals, ACPCM will outperform the widely used PCM and DPCM in the sense of minimizing the meansquared quantizing error. For autoregressive (AR)signals, ACPCM is shown to reduce to DPCM.

The memory requirement for the uniform quantization turbo decoder is very large. The nonuniform quantization provides better or identical performance than the uniform scheme. But it is inconvenient for the latter to implement with the hardware circuits.

Hybrid Companding Delta Modulation
IEEE Transactions on Communications, 1981We present a reasonably complete account of an improved adaptive delta modulation (ADM) system called hybrid companding delta modulation (HCDM). The HCDM system that is far superior to continuously variable slope DM (CVSD) or constant factor DM (CFDM) is advantageous, particularly for speech coding. It employs both syllabic and instantaneous companding

Comparision between SLM-companding and precoding-companding techniques in OFDM systems
2016 International Conference on Circuit, Power and Computing Technologies (ICCPCT), 2016OFDM is a multicarrier modulation technique which is used in communication systems like Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN), Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN), Wireless Metropolitan Area Network (WMAN), Wi-Max, DVB-T etc for the high rate transmission over wireless radio channels.

Instantaneously companding integrators
Proceedings of 1997 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems. Circuits and Systems in the Information Age ISCAS '97, 2002The concepts behind instantaneously companding integrators are reviewed, and the context in which they may find use is discussed. Several examples of specific cases are offered, including log domain, square root domain and variable capacitance circuits. Several issues requiring attention are discussed.

This paper deals with the requirements for the design of digital companding techniques in either delta or pulse-code modulation. Both delta and pulse-code modulation convert analogue signals into binary signals and in both these systems the dynamic range is normally small. By the use of companding, the dynamic range can be extended.

A robust CMOS compander circuit meeting all of the requirements for analog cellular telephony and using an improved sigma-delta compander topology is presented. Rather than digitizing and reconstructing the input signal using a sigma-delta modulator as has been done previously, only the amplitude path is digitized while the voice path remains analog ...

Companding Digital Signal Processors
2006 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speed and Signal Processing Proceedings, 2006We discuss a technique whereby internal signals in a DSP can be controlled externally without causing output disturbances. This is used to extend the technique of companding (compressing and expanding), widely used in transmission and sound recording, to digital signal processors.

Companding through shaped superconductors
Review of Scientific Instruments, 1998Companding has been performed through the use of a shaped superconductor and a design procedure for arriving at the required profile of the superconductor to obtain the required law of companding as described.
