High-Rate Design of Transform Coders with Gaussian Mixture Companders

2006 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speed and Signal Processing Proceedings, 2006
This paper examines the problem of designing fixed-rate transform coders for sources with arbitrary distributions, under input-weighted squared error distortion measures. As a component of this system, a flexible scalar compander using Gaussian mixtures is proposed.

Novel Nonlinear Companding Transform for PAPR Reduction

2019
In this paper, a novel technique to control the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in Non-Continuous Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing with Offset Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (NC-OFDM/OQAM) is proposed. When compared with conventional NC-OFDM systems the corresponding PAPR seems to be increasing which is a disadvantage.

PAPR Reduction in Universal Filtered Multicarrier Systems with Companding Transform

2020 Third International Conference on Advances in Electronics, Computers and Communications (ICAECC), 2020
Universal filtered multi carrier (UFMC) is an alternative waveform for both orthogonal frequency division multiplexing and filter bank multi carrier. High spectral efficiency is the attractive feature of 5G UFMC system. However, UFMC undergoes with high peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR), which affects the efficiency of power amplifier.

Exponential Companding Transform to Mitigate PAPR in SC-FDMA Systems

2019 PhotonIcs & Electromagnetics Research Symposium - Spring (PIERS-Spring), 2019
Long Term Evolution (LTE) chose Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) for uplink communications due to lower signal envelope changes in SC-FDMA signal. This enables low peak to average power ratio (PAPR) in SC-FDMA in contrast to Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA).

New companding transform for PAPR reduction in OFDM

IEEE Communications Letters, 2010
High peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) is a major drawback of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Among the various PAPR reduction techniques, companding transform appears attractive for its simplicity and effectiveness. This paper proposes a new companding algorithm.

Reduction of PAPR of OFDM Signals Using Nonlinear Companding Transform

Wireless Personal Communications, 2012
In this paper, we propose and evaluate a novel nonlinear companding transform (NCT) scheme for peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. The key idea of the proposed scheme is to transform the original Gaussian-distributed OFDM signals into a specific statistics form, whose target ...

Nonlinear Companding Transform Using Hyperbolic Tangent Function in OFDM Systems

2012 8th International Conference on Wireless Communications, Networking and Mobile Computing, 2012
A new nonlinear companding transform (NCT) scheme is proposed to reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of transmitted signals in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Its companding transfer curve is based on the specified hyperbolic tangent function.

Companding transform for PAPR reduction in coherent optical OFDM system

2012 21st Annual Wireless and Optical Communications Conference (WOCC), 2012
µ-law companding and de-companding, which enlarges small signals and compresses large signals, can work successfully in the CO-OFDM transmission system, and µ=1 is the optimal companding coefficient for PAPR reduction.

Two-piecewise companding transform for PAPR reduction of OFDM signals

2011 7th International Wireless Communications and Mobile Computing Conference, 2011
To reduce the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals, a two-piecewise companding (TPWC) transform is proposed so as to compress large signal amplitudes and expand small ones with two different linear functions.

Nonlinear companding transform technique for reducing PAPR of ODFM signals

IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, 2012
In this paper a novel nonlinear companding transform (NCT) scheme based on the inverse hyperbolic sine function is proposed for reducing the peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals. By introducing the variable companding parameters and an inflexion point in the companding function, it enables more
