Anticoagulation Strategies in Adults Undergoing Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArtificial Organs, Volume 50, Issue 8, Page 1103-1117, August 2026.
In this meta‐analysis of 2 775 adult ECMO patients from non‐randomized studies, direct thrombin inhibitors and low‐molecular‐weight heparins demonstrated a favorable efficacy and safety profile over unfractionated heparin. These findings suggest them to be effective alternatives to unfractionated heparin, underscoring the urgent need for randomized ...

Age‐Related Differences in Corticospinal Function and Muscle Strength: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Neuroscience, Volume 64, Issue 3, August 2026.
Changes in nervous system with age are responsible for reduced muscle force‐generating capacity (i.e., MVC). This meta‐analysis reveals that older adults exhibited lower resting corticospinal excitability and ICF, coupled with prolonged CSP and lower MVC, compared to younger adults.

GLP‐1 receptor agonists, metabolic syndrome, and Alzheimer's disease: Lessons and opportunities from the EVOKE trials

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 38, Issue 8, August 2026.
Abstract Metabolic syndrome and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are increasingly recognised as interconnected, sharing vascular, metabolic and inflammatory pathways that accelerate brain ageing and cognitive decline. This review critically examines the evidence that glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs), initially developed for diabetes and ...

Experimental Models of Autoimmune Hepatitis: Disease Fidelity and Translational Relevance

open access: yesLiver International, Volume 46, Issue 8, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) remains difficult to study mechanistically in patients because disease initiation is rarely observed directly, the relevant autoantigens differ across subsets, and clinically meaningful outcomes such as chronic inflammation, fibrosis, relapse, and treatment response evolve over time.
