A Case Report of Lung Cancer in a Horse Trainer Caused by Exposure to Respirable Crystalline Silica: An Exposure Assessment

open access: yesSafety and Health at Work, 2013
Here, we present a case of lung cancer in a 48-year-old male horse trainer. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first such case report to include an exposure assessment of respirable crystalline silica (RCS) as a quartz.

Using Bayesian Model Averaging to Analyse Hierarchical Health Data: model implementation and application to linked health service use data

open access: yesInternational Journal of Population Data Science, 2017
Objective The majority of standard coding systems applied to health data are hierarchical: they start with several major categories and then each category is broken into subcategories across multiple levels.

Charge puddles in a completely compensated topological insulator [PDF]

open access: yesNew J. Phys. 18 (2016) 073024, 2016
Compensation of intrinsic charges is widely used to reduce the bulk conductivity of 3D topological insulators (TIs). Here we use low temperature electron irradiation-induced defects paired with in-situ electrical transport measurements to fine-tune the degree of compensation in Bi2Te3.

Toward a More Populous Online Platform: The Economic Impacts of Compensated Reviews [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2022
Many companies nowadays offer compensation to online reviews (called compensated reviews), expecting to increase the volume of their non-compensated reviews and overall rating. Does this strategy work? On what subjects or topics does this strategy work the best?

COMPENSATION AND CONTINUITY [PDF]

open access: yesLegal Theory, 2019
ABSTRACTThis article examines accounts of the moral basis of compensatory duties that explain such duties as the continuation, in some way, of the pre-wrong normative situation. I identify, contrast, and assess three versions of this view—duty continuity, right continuity, and reasons continuity.

A geospatial time-aware web interface to deliver information about air pollution and exposure in a big city and its surroundings [PDF]

open access: yesThe International Archives of the Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, 2014
A GIS-based web-mapping system is presented, aimed at providing specialists, stakeholders and population with a simple, while scientifically rigorous, way to obtain information about people exposure to air pollution in the city of Rome (Italy).

Compensation Learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Weighting strategy prevails in machine learning. For example, a common approach in robust machine learning is to exert lower weights on samples which are likely to be noisy or quite hard. This study reveals another undiscovered strategy, namely, compensating.
