Competing relaxation mechanisms in strained layers

Physical Review Letters, 1994
We show that strained epitaxial layers can relax by two competing mechanisms. At large misfit, the surface becomes rough, allowing easy nucleation of dislocations. However, strain-induced surface roughening is thermally activated, and the energy barrier increases very rapidly with decreasing misfit \ensuremath{\varepsilon}.

Competing Mechanisms in a Common Value Environment

Econometrica, 2000
Summary: Consider strategic risk-neutral traders competing in schedules to supply liquidity to a risk-averse agent who is privately informed about the value of the asset and his hedging needs. Imperfect competition in this \textit{common value environment} is analyzed as a \textit{multi-principal game} in which liquidity suppliers offer trading ...

Competing mechanisms [PDF]

open access: possibleCanadian Journal of Economics/Revue canadienne d'économique, 2013
AbstractThe recent literature on competing mechanisms has devoted a lot of effort at understanding a very complex and abstract issue. In particular, an agent's type in a competitive environment is hard to conceptualize because it depends on information the agent has about what is going on in the rest of the market.

Mechanism Design by Competing Sellers

Econometrica, 1993
Summary: A dynamic model with many sellers and many buyers is constructed, in which buyers who fail to purchase in the current period may attempt to purchase in the future, and sellers who fail to sell may sell in the future. An equilibrium is found where sellers hold identical auctions and buyers randomize over the sellers they visit.

Competing stabilisation mechanisms in Mg2NiH4

Journal of Alloys and Compounds, 2002
Abstract By using three different Mg 2 Ni alloys to synthesise Mg 2 NiH 4 an additional stabilisation mechanism of this system has been identified. It has been known for some time that the stacking faults at unit cell level in the lattice, microtwinning, stabilise this hydride thermodynamically, but the results in this study also reveal that the ...

A competency mechanism.

New Zealand Journal of Counselling, 2017
A critical review is offered of the dominant “competency mechanisms” recommended by the “psy” professions for professional development and public assurance. Although the New Zealand Association of Counsellors has voted against registration under the Health Practitioners Competence Assurance Act (2003), it has advanced “competency mechanisms” similar to
